Position Overview:

Assist in the commissioning of building systems, learning fundamental engineering guidelines, code compliance requirements, and industry standards. Participate in the functional testing, documentation, and field investigations, contributing to efficient operation of HVAC, plumbing, fire alarm, and sprinkler systems. Collaborate closely with clients and project teams to ensure the successful execution of commissioning activities and witness, document, and optimize performance of equipment and systems.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Testing and Verification: Witness and document pre-functional and functional testing and verification of equipment and systems in the field. Perform functional testing of building systems, with a focus on HVAC, plumbing, fire alarm, and sprinkler systems.
  • Commissioning Plan Support: Assist in the preparation of commissioning plans and specifications, including the review of design documents and submittals. Assist with preparing comprehensive deliverables, including scheduling plans and specifications, as well as assist with commissioning focused drawing reviews.
  • Mechanical System Commissioning: Work with other commissioning members to perform commissioning of mechanical systems, ensuring their proper functioning and adherence to design intent.
  • Systems Optimization: Assist with optimizing mechanical systems for energy efficiency and sustainability, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Field Expertise: Conduct field assessments and system evaluations with an understanding of general commissioning guidelines.
  • Data Analysis and Collection: Evaluate Building Automation System (BAS) performance, review historical trend data, and develop data logger deployment plans. Implement data logger deployment plans, collect data, and analyze it to understand building/systems performance and energy consumption.
  • Code Compliance: Evaluate engineering guidelines, industry standards, along with commissioning and code requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Proposal Development: Assist with developing proposals and formulate responses to RFPs for commissioning projects.
  • Project Planning: Create and maintain project plans, overseeing all project elements and resources.
  • Budget and Fiscal Management: Ensure projects align with fiscal requirements, tracking project budget and costs.

General Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration and Client Engagement: Attend meetings with owners, owner’s representatives, and building managers, along with architects to discuss current and future projects.
  • Mentorship and Training: Support junior team members through training and mentorship, enhancing the firm's human resource efforts.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated through educational opportunities, professional publications, and technical organizations. Prepare for certifications in your area of expertise.
  • Flexibility: Adapt to flexible responsibilities and consistently set and meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Interstate Travel: Periodically travel interstate as required for project assignments.
  • Represent the Company: Represent the company professionally in interactions with owners, vendors, other design professionals, and contractors.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned to contribute to the overall success of the firm.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 0-4 years of experience with a consulting engineering firm, contractor, or commissioning firm.
  • Certifications: Fundamentals of Engineering (FE/EIT) certification is a plus.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of MEP building systems and commissioning requirements.
  • Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to analyze complex problems, evaluate options, and implement effective solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail to ensure accurate and compliant design documentation.
  • Time Management: Excellent time management skills, capable of handling multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and effectively collaborate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Collaborative team player, adept at communicating complex concepts.
