Under the general supervision of the Finance Director and Assistant Finance Director, the Accountant is responsible for daily tracking, balancing, reconciliation and posting of daily revenue. Works closely with the Office Accountant to maintain the general ledger for bank reconciliations.

  • Verify all cash drawers and revenues collected on a daily basis.
  • Assist the cashier and clerks for balancing, voids or corrections to receipts. Communicate with other departments regarding issues with receipts.
  • Daily posting of all receipts, ACH’s and ETF’s and bank date verifications for the office accountant to assist with bank reconciliation.
  • Balance, approve and post journals for the AS400 system on a daily basis for B&O revenue.
  • Daily Bank reconciliation of all online payment system revenue receipted in, including tracking, balancing, refunding and reporting and troubleshooting on issues with other departments. Daily Bank reconciliations for online payment ACH’s.
  • Reconcile the third party collection business for B&O taxes and create monthly PO’s for distribution of collections.
  • Reconcile Hotel/Motel revenue and submit monthly PO’s for distribution of revenue.
  • Assist with monthly billings as needed.
  • Assist with posting of daily journals to the general ledger as needed by the Assistant Finance Director.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Finance Director
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Excellent knowledge of computer hardware and software including Microsoft Office, email, accounting software and internet browser programs.;
  • Exceptional organization skills and ability to respond quickly and accurately to requests while working effectively in a team environment;
  • Thorough and meticulous attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision while providing recommendations and solutions to challenges to the Finance Director
  • Ability to work as a team with other Finance Department managers to complete department deadlines and projects;
  • Ability to communicate thoughts, both written and verbally, in a simple and clear way;
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite;

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Occasional exposure to physically demanding, unpleasant, strenuous, and/or hazardous situations when dealing with the public.
  • This position operates in an indoor office environment, sitting, standing, walking, using a computer and other office equipment, and communicating orally and in writing. Physical ability may include ability to lift files or office supplies up to 20 lbs.

USE OF TECHNOLOGY & EQUIPMENT

  • Position has daily use of computers, the Internet, Smartphones, etc. to create databases, spreadsheets, or reports. Position designs and creates customized reports, presentations, and/or documents using advanced software skills.

CONTACT & SUPERVISION

  • Communicates with city management, department heads, citizens, business owners, and other parties concerning financial reporting matters.
  • This position works under the direction of the Finance Director and the Assistant Finance Director.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Between two to four years experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Intermediate level user of Exel and other Microsoft products
  • Experience working in government financing
  • Experience working with the General Ledger
