What We’re Searching For
The Municipal Association of South Carolina is accepting resumes for the position of public safety loss control consultant for the risk management services worker’s compensation and property/liability insurance programs.
Job Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provides professional consulting services in law enforcement risk management and loss control analysis to member cities to minimize loss and manage necessary exposure. Assists member cities and towns in developing effective safety and risk management programs; Conducts assessments of member risk management programs and procedures; Utilizes a variety of software applications to prepare and present annual reviews; Researches and provides multiple sources of data, standards and best practices as a technical resource for members.
- Travels extensively in-state with occasional overnight stays to meet with municipal staff, including police and fire professionals, human resources professionals, finance directors, risk managers, administrative support staff, executives, mayors, and members of city councils.
- Develops and conducts law enforcement and fire safety specific training to increase potential loss awareness among public safety staff; Prepares articles for the quarterly newsletter and other Association publications as needed; Provides recommendations for various proposed law enforcement and public safety legislation.
Qualifications included but are not limited to:
- Bachelor’s degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college education in criminal justice, fire science, business administration, public administration, risk management or a closely related field; Four years of law enforcement industry experience with an emphasis on development of policies and procedures and training or an equivalent combination of related training and experience; Successful completion of training at the SC Fire Academy with two to three years of experience in firefighting or any equivalent combination of training and experience in fire science/technology and emergency response a plus. Working knowledge of state and federal laws applicable to law enforcement, public safety, and operations of municipal government; Experience in safety, risk management, or loss control administration is a plus.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license and a current or former law enforcement officer certification; Must be able to obtain Associate in Risk Management Designation and other instructor certifications, such as defensive driving certification, as needed. SC Fire Academy certification is a plus.
- Demonstrated above average interpersonal, organizational and customer services skills, excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, problem solving, technology, and time management skills, experience developing and conducting training; strong awareness of and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Pay and Benefits Info: Competitive salary based on qualifications and excellent benefits package including South Carolina State Retirement and insurance. This is a remote work/travel position, but employee in this role is expected to be in the office occasionally for meetings, etc. Company car is provided.
