Medical Record Review Specialist

DonorConnect is seeking a full-time Medical Record Review Specialist who will be responsible for conducting medical record reviews in accordance with CMS regulations and AOPO guidelines. This position requires someone with excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail, as well as strong communication skills, computer and software skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database knowledge. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.

Under the direction of the Manager, Hospital Services, they will be responsible for the following:

  • Assumes responsibility for requesting, receiving, and documenting receipt of all mortality lists from all hospitals in our service area.
  • Assumes responsibility for conducting thorough review of organ and tissue referrals and compares mortality reports to internal referral reports to identify gaps.
  • Assumes responsibility for completing Death Record Reviews (DRR's) as needed per regulations and standards. Completes documentation gaps as identified upon chart reviews. Communicate trends in findings to appropriate leadership. Coordinates cases to be reviewed by the Potential Review Committee.
  • Participates in the data quality process by identifying data quality gaps, bringing those gaps to leaderships attention, discussing ways to better capture appropriate data, assisting in implementing those changes.

Minimum Qualifications

Training/Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree required, and/or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
  • RN required
  • ICU experience preferred

Experience:

  • Two years of critical care nursing preferred

Required Knowledge:

  • Familiar with medical language, critical care conditions, testing, lab values, potential outcomes, normal and abnormal physiology
  • Ability to assess medical narrative and review medical records

Skills/Abilities:

  • Analytical capabilities
  • Ability to use various business equipment, including telephone, computer, printer, etc.
  • Valid driver license
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to move up to 10 pounds at times with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to write clinical or technical narrative effectively.
