Join PDL for a new learning experience designed specifically for high school students.  Teen STEM Corps Members will receive an internship experience in a functional makerspace-- assisting community members in hands-on making with 3D printers, sewing machines, laser cutters, and more  Participants will learn about each of the tools in The Lab through an in-depth orientation process and be encouraged to try their hand at various STEM projects throughout the summer.


This temporary position requires availability for 15 hours of work per week from June 17th, 2024 - August 24th, 2024, paid at a rate of $15.30/hour. 


Applicants must be 16+ before June 17th, 2024 and a current high school student or recent graduate to apply.


JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the IT Coordinator, the Teen STEM Corps Members will support hands-on activities in the library's Lab-- a makerspace environment.  They will work together to facilitate STEM events for kids. This position requires an appreciation of basic safety when working with tools, a willingness to try new things, and a positive attitude. Clear and friendly communication to staff and patrons of all ages is expected.


JOB DUTIES:

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following duties. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Act as the main point of contact for patrons requiring help in the library's makerspace.  This may include providing an introductory overview on how to use a tool or troubleshooting an issue with a device.
  • Plan and facilitate public events for young children alongside library staff members on STEM-related topics.
  • Answer questions about basic library services
  • Create displays and other promotional material

  • Current High School student or recent High School graduate
  • Enthusiasm for learning and adapting to new ideas and technologies
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patrons, managers, and coworkers
  • Consistency in attendance required
  • Familiarity with library services and resources preferred
  • Enthusiasm for creativity preferred
  • Graphic design skills preferred
  • Sewing skills preferred
