The Financial Services Manager is responsible for managing, directing and monitoring all operational aspects associated with the daily operations of the Financial Services Department. The Manager will provide direction and support to leadership to assist with establishing clearly defined workflow requirements for the staff. The Manager will assist the leader with setting and implementing the strategic goals for the Financial Services Department to ensure adoption and adherence of quality standards that minimize the institution's risk and enhance the patient experience. This position is responsible for overseeing and enforcing compliance with established FC policies and procedures. Prepares, analyzes and summarizes reports made available to leadership regarding FC productivity and the quality of staff performance, with recommended strategies for operational improvement.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides day-to-day oversight of financial services staff, with a focus on providing an excellent patient experience.
  • Supervises and develops staff to create and foster a culture of comradery and respect for all patients and personnel.
  • Identifies, troubleshoots and proactively resolves both routine and complex patient services issues in a timely manner, or escalates to next management level as necessary.
  • Delivers a personalized patient experience over the phone using professional etiquette.
  • Ensures optimal operational flow and administrative accuracy.
  • Establishes and maintain long term patient relationships.
  • Is a culture keeper with the ability to project energy and enthusiasm with patients and team members.
  • Develops, implements, manages, and monitors all Financial Services processes related to eligibility and verification of benefits, pre-authorization of services.
  • Provides direct support to the leads and sets appropriate expectations regarding Financial Services verification, pre-authorization standards through established departmental policies and procedure.
  • Responsible to help develop new programs that improve the coordination and delivery of Verification and Preauthorization Services related activities to ensure ongoing maintenance of efficient and effective operational workflows related to the financial clearance new and existing patients.
  • Demonstrate, through plans and actions, that there is a consistent standard of excellence to which the financial counseling department work is expected to conform.
  • Collaborates closely with key stakeholders in New Patient Admissions, including direct interaction with physicians and clinic support personnel on all escalated verifications and preauthorization activities, operational outcomes, and issues to assist with developing and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Supports the VP of Operations in developing verification and preauthorization strategies that support operational improvement, optimization of reimbursement and ongoing enhancement of the patient experience.
  • Assists the VP of Operations with any required education, training, hiring, evaluating, and counseling of verifications and preauthorization departments.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with leadership philosophy, policies, and applicable laws. Responsibilities includes:
  • Providing mentoring and guidance to mid-level and junior employees.
  • Offering feedback targeted at individual development.
  • Fulfilling staffing needs and workforce planning.
  • Team development by facilitating positive relationships and providing resources, support, and encouragement for others to be successful in their role and to grow professionally.
  • Setting the strategic direction to mature function.
  • Liaison between staff and executive committee.
  • Interviewing and providing final decision making on hiring needs.
  • Rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of leadership experience is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in insurance and benefits verification or preauthorization of treatment and patient financial counseling is required.
