General Position Summary: This position exists to assist the Department Director of Evangelization and Catechesis in overseeing all parish-level formation within the realms of Evangelization, Adult Faith Formation (AFF), the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), and Children’s Catechesis (which includes OCIA Adapted for Children, Family Faith Formation, and Special Needs catechesis.)

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Assist and collaborate with Department Director of Catechesis in all matters related to Evangelization, AFF, OCIA, program development, and parish outreach.
  • Oversee the formation of children from Pre-K through eighth grade and the administration of all Guidelines and OCIA Adapted for Children.
  • Support, inform, and guide parishes via the various in-services, deanery meetings, workshops, retreats, and orientations provided throughout the year.
  • Provide catechetical training and up-to-date resources for parish Directors as well as their catechetical staff and volunteers through parish-visit team training.
  • Evaluate new catechetical material for submission to the diocesan Department Director and oversee the updating of diocesan manuals, guidelines, and appropriate webpages.
  • Collaborate with various diocesan offices, especially the St. Francis de Sales catechist formation program, and assist in preparing for diocesan events and initiatives.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parish catechetical staff and volunteers.
  • Responsible for all other projects, tasks, etc., as assigned.

Typical Decisions and/or Recommendations Made in This Position:

  • In collaboration with the Department Director of Catechesis, this position makes managerial decisions regarding budget.

Supervision Given and/or Received:

  • Received: Direct supervision given to this position from Department Director of Catechesis.

Internal Contacts:

  • Priests, Deacons, Employees, Volunteers, and/or Parishioners.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • This position works in a typical office environment but is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding business needs, tight deadlines, and heavy workloads.

Travel Requirements:

  • Some travel required to Diocesan Parishes as well as vendors for supplies.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Theology, required.
  • 4-7 years’ experience in Faith Formation, required.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Active member in good standing of a Roman Catholic parish, required.
  • Knowledge of the Catholic Church, Catholic sacraments, and Catholic rites, required.
  • Knowledge of the Catholic Church including an in-depth familiarity with its structures, functions, and institutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and pastoral ability required.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, and work well independently as well as on a team.
  • Must possess effective time-management techniques as well as the ability to think proactively and critically.
  • Must be able to effectively manage group dynamics as well as interpersonal relationships to yield positive results.
  • Skill in public speaking required.
  • Skill in working with high level clergy and public officials required.
  • Skill in writing and editing various documents required.
  • Ability to carry out multiple tasks, complete tasks per established guidelines and deadlines required.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times required.
  • Ability to proficiently communicate (conversing, reading, and writing) in English (required) and Spanish (preferred).
