About the Role:

Aquila is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to join our team in supporting one of the country's premier defense research organizations. The Linux Systems Administrator will support a wide variety of information technology (IT) tasks across a diverse set of network and computer resources specializing in Enterprise Linux. The system administrator will be responsible for contributing to the IT team's efforts in maintaining and improving the group's computer resources and meeting government IT security requirements

There are a few requirements for the position:

  • Must be a U.S Citizen (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
  • Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)
  • Must be within commutable distance of Lexington, Massachusetts.

What You'll Do:

Maintains operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination of infrastructure and cloud responsibilities. Develops and designs core operating system builds. Responsible for coding, virtualization, and automation of systems. Sets up administrator and service accounts, maintains an active directory of users and system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space. Assesses and resolves user access problems related to security controls to minimize business impact and risk exposure. Identifies and evaluates vendor products and establishes vendor monitoring and tracking processes. Performs capacity planning and monitors/tunes systems. Recommends appropriate platforms for purchase, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery. Serves as a point of escalation for major incidents that are unresolved at the helpdesk level. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. May draft general IT communications to end-users including notifications of outages/downtimes.

Responsibilities:

  • Linux Administration: Installing/Maintaining Linux systems, ensuring security compliance, responding to scan results, proactively remediating issues by patching and modifying systems and containers as needed.
  • Deploying and maintaining Desktops and Laptops for testing and development.
  • Work closely with project teams and developers to provide expertise to solve technical problems.
  • Install, configure, and manage Linux desktops/servers, as well as some network infrastructure devices. Install and maintain commercial software as needed.
  • Maintain the integrity and security of systems, ensure security compliance, respond to scan results, proactively remediating issues by patching and modifying systems as needed.
  • Provide general IT user support for all staff members in the Group, interfacing and collaborating with central IT and Security departments to utilize enterprise provided services when possible.
  • Create documentation on IT systems and procedures to satisfy certification, technical staff, and end users.
  • Author and manage Data Security Plans (DSP) for unique system and operating requirements outside established security policies. Draw system and networking diagrams and concisely report system plans; act as the liaison to Security Department in implementing and maintaining DSPs.
  • Write scripts and use configuration management tools to automate repetitive tasks and manage complex deployments.

What You'll Bring:

  • A solid understanding of, and experience with managing Linux (Particularly Ubuntu and also RedHat)
  • Strong understanding and experience with practical implementation of Ansible with both Ubuntu and RedHat.
  • Must have highly effective verbal and written communication skills, proven experience working in a team environment, and the ability to complete assignments independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to research, diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and networking problems.
  • Ability to respond quickly and professionally to all types of users and all type of user requests, always with a positive attitude and demeanor.
  • Excellent customer service skills, communication skills, comprehensive and troubleshooting skills are required
  • Comfortability dealing with highly technical end users
  • Install and maintain all commercial software
  • Remediate vulnerabilities by applying patches and configuration management to maintain compliance with policies and procedures
  • Coordinate with Information System Security Officer (ISSO) for all group Systems Security Plans
  • Strong understanding for DoD RMF and STIG process
  • Document IT procedures
  • Familiarity with administrating and supporting GitHub and Programing environments
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, MS Active Directory and LDAP. Particularly with Binding Linux systems to AD

Must Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 4 years TCP/IP
  • 2 years Understanding for DoD RMF and STIG process
  • 2 years MS Active Directory
  • 6 years Software Configuration Management (Puppet or Ansible)
  • 6 years Linux system administration (RedHat + Ubuntu)
  • 3 years MS Active Directory, LDAP
  • 6 years System Administration
  • 2 years Technologies including DNS, DHCP, Proxy and Load Balancing

Nice to Have:

  • Configure and manage Cisco/Juiper equipment (switches, routers and Call Managers)
  • Cybersecurity Maturing Model Compliance (CMMC)
  • Virtualization Technologies (VMware, including ESXi and VCenter configuration)
  • Virtualization Technologies to include VM management, Snapshots, SANs and iSCSI Storage Systems
  • VM Ware ESXi and Associated Management Systems
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, including ESXi configuration, and VCenter), networking, storage, and user access.
  • Skills and experience in IP Networking, including LAN, WAN, and a understanding of VLANs and firewall
  • Management of file shares, and SAN/NAS environments
  • Experience with containers and container orchestration tools, Docker, Ansible, Tanzu, or Kubernetes.
  • Experience installing and configuring routers and switches
  • General experience working with collaboration tools such as Confluence, Teams, Zoom and SharePoint, as well as with Microsoft Office Suite tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook).
  • Experience working directly with end-users such as developers in troubleshooting simple and complex environments.
  • Experience with Satellite, ACAS, Splunk and McAfee/Trellix ePO Server
  • Understanding of VMWare/vSphere virtual environments including virtual machine provisioning and resource management (disk, CPU, and RAM monitoring).
  • Prior work or understanding of CMMC compliance
