The Chief Development Officer will bring a genuine passion for the mission of our client is coupled with proven experience as a fundraising and organizational development professional, with management experience and demonstrated track record of high-level fundraising.The CDO collaborates with the councils Chief Executive Officer in translating the vision and corporate goals set by the councils Board of Directors, into effective, operational strategies and actions to meet the councils financial goals and objectives. The CDO will oversee and manage a team of fund development professionals with a high degree of self-direction and initiative. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CDO will model and support effective, ongoing cross-departmental partnerships that intersect fundraising, board governance, programming, and infrastructure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Identify potential sources and raise philanthropic funds from individuals, corporations, foundations, government, United Ways, planned giving and major gifts; maintain relationships with current and past donors.

Design, implement, and manage an integrated, comprehensive, and balanced fund development program that ensures all annual short-term and long-term fundraising goals and reporting requirements are met.

Partner with the CEO on a clear vision for fundraising for the organization.

Direct, design, organize and implement strategy to segment, prospect, cultivate, solicit, and grow major donors.

Develop effective donor management and retention programs to increase the share of dollars directed to our client from current and new donors.

Develop sponsorships and provide support, oversight, and management for the clients flagship fundraising events.

Identify and develop endowment and planned giving prospects.

Manages the organizations affinity groups, giving societies, and giving circles.

Design, organize, direct, and implement strategy to increase the overall number of annual campaign donors.

Support effective donor management strategies focused on increasing donor retention and decreasing donor attrition.

Develop alliances as appropriate with corporate, government and private partners.

Lead a diverse Fund Development team that enables the organization to succeed and ensure staffs work is aligned with mission and strategy.

Serve as staff advisor to Board Fundraising Committee Chair.Provides assistance and implementation of activities and idea development by committee.

Establish, monitor, and administer budget and expenses within budgetary requirements, including planning and managing budget line items for specific outcomes.

Counsel and assist staff in professional growth and development within our client and the community. Conduct timely performance evaluations.

Set priorities decisively but collaboratively, delegate responsibilities, ensure accountability, and allocate resources to ensure results.

Develops a depth of knowledge regarding the design of the programs leadership experience and can easily articulate to any stakeholder the virtues of the organization.

Convert strategy into effective execution, offer creative, practical ideas to achieve the clients strategic direction and goals.

Be a catalyst for growth and change inspiring all to think entrepreneurially and welcoming new ideas.

Integrate diverse perspectives with ease while leading through an equitable lens.

Active participation in the development of environments that foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and access through words, actions, and attitude.

8.Ability to write grant applications and fundraising proposals.

9.Ability to strategize and successfully execute fundraising campaigns.

10.Ability to work independently and be self-motivated but within a team environment.

11.Ability to provide seamless integration and coordination of effort among departments, programs, and services.

12.Ability to leverage critical thinking skills, especially around data, to make impactful business decisions.

13.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, and internet technology.

14.Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

15.Travel throughout council jurisdiction up to 20% of the time and willingness to travel outside of council jurisdiction as job requires.

16.Capability to provide own transportation and maintain valid license.

17.Adherence to Our client Heart of the South policies and procedures.


Education and Experience:

1.Bachelors degree in Communications, Business, Public Relations, related field, or higher or equivalent 7 years of directly related work experience, and at least 6 years of leadership experience. Advanced degree preferred.

2.Minimum 4 years of upper management experience in fund development with an excellent track record in major gifts and annual funding.

3.Proven record of managing others through strategic execution and goal achievement including at C-Level.

  1. Experience building and supporting high-functioning teams are essential. Demonstrated ability to foster cross-functional collaboration, inclusion, and integration for Council success.

5.Proven grant-writing expertise and planned giving experience.

6.Experience with Network For Good donor database or similar donor software program desired.

7.Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred but not required.

8.Experience with capital campaigns preferred but not required.
