Humane Education Instructor

Department: Education and Outreach

Location: Papago Park Campus

Status: Part-time

FLSA: Non-exempt

Schedule: Up to 12 hours a week, includes weekends and evenings

Reports To: Education Supervisor

Supervises: N/A

A Day in the Life:

The Humane Education Instructor is responsible for providing a variety of unique learning and engagement opportunities, which support our strategic priorities in community education on a part-time basis. This position will facilitate a variety of weekend and evening programs for all ages with the goal of cultivating a more empathic and compassionate community. The Instructor will ensure our programs provide engaging, highly interactive and hands-on content that educates and inspires our greater community about issues in animal welfare. Programs include scout programs, birthday parties, reading programs, and tours. Weekly hours will vary depending on scheduled events.


Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma / GED
  • Valid AZ driver's license
  • Must acquire a fingerprint clearance card
  • Customer service experience required
  • 1-2 years' experience working with children in an education or instructional setting
  • Facilitates high engagement fee-for-service programs including birthday parties, reading programs, tours, field trips, camps, school programs, etc.
  • Effectively engages and retains students through enthusiastic teaching skills and patience.
  • Adheres to teaching standards and safety regulations as established by AHS and the Education and Outreach Department
  • Provides conflict resolution techniques for students in a safe and healthy environment.
  • Sets up/breaks down teaching areas and instructional tools.
  • Meets and exceeds each customer's expectations with excellent service.
  • Handles check, cash, and credit transactions.
  • Position includes light computer and administrative work to support program scheduling, reporting, and record keeping.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors, and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air-conditioned and heated office environment.
