ROLE SUMMARY: The Specialized Education Instructor is responsible for designing and delivering tailored educational experiences to accommodate the distinct requirements of students with disabilities. This position operates under the guidance of the campus Principal and Superintendent, with direct collaboration from the program coordinator. The role encompasses the assessment and evaluation of student development in relation to educational objectives, adherence to mandated procedures, and functioning as the IEP manager for designated students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate student performance and identify the necessity for supplementary support or modifications to teaching strategies.
  • Fulfill all district and state reporting obligations.
  • Adhere to all institutional policies and comply with state and federal regulations.
  • Assist in the special education assessment and reevaluation processes.
  • Coordinate the implementation of special education services as outlined in each student's IEP.
  • Create an engaging learning environment emphasizing personalized instruction utilizing the approved curriculum.
  • Develop and execute annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans, detailing current educational performance, special education requirements, instructional goals, and collaborative strategies with the child study team.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methodologies to facilitate student achievement of IEP objectives.
  • Oversee and assess the performance of educational assistants as required.
  • Deliver evidence-based specialized instruction to meet the instructional goals outlined in each student's IEP.
  • Organize team meetings and collaborate effectively with TSS (Para-pros) and other team members to establish instructional goals and strategies.
  • Act as the primary liaison for parents and guardians.
  • Engage directly with parents, districts, and charter referral sources.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with educational professionals and community service providers regarding student needs.
  • Implement a structured classroom environment that promotes student accountability, cooperation, and respect in line with district policies.
  • Maintain discipline and control within the classroom and during school-related activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Provide training and guidance to classroom TSS (para-pros) on instructional adaptations, modifications, and behavior management strategies to support students with disabilities.
Qualifications:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to objectively analyze needs and challenges.
  • Capacity to build and sustain effective relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Expertise in working with children facing behavioral and emotional challenges.
  • Familiarity with relevant technology, including tools like iPads for personalized instruction.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential.
  • Comprehensive understanding of school policies and the ability to uphold behavioral standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of effective teaching principles for students with disabilities.
  • Thorough understanding of special education practices and methodologies.
Education and Certification:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited institution in the relevant special education field.
  • Required: AZ Special Education Certification or Alternative SPED Certification.
  • Current Arizona teaching license in the required content area or progress towards obtaining AZ certification/license.
Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, communicate, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Position may involve physical interaction with students who exhibit challenging behaviors, requiring the use of appropriate intervention techniques.
