In this role, you will leverage your knowledge of the thrift business to effectively execute and quickly adapt strategies to ensure operational excellence, merchandising execution, maximum productivity, profitable sales, and earnings growth. You will be joining a highly motivated mission-driven organization. You will have direct accountability and management of your home store as the store manager and you will provide leadership and oversight for at least 2 other stores. You will drive high performance across all initiatives and ensure consistency within your market (or submarket) as measured by company goals and KPIs that drive a profitable and sustainable retail division. You will lead, develop, coach, and inspire a market of stores (initially 3 stores – your home store plus 2 others within the region) to deliver an optimal customer, donor, and employee experience. Your goal is to lead execution and support the brand and enterprise vision, ensuring you and your managers are delivering results and holding their store teams accountable. Your leadership in our thrift business is critical to fueling the engine that enables our human services work. Essential Functions: Describe the duties that define the core responsibilities of the job. PERFORMANCE AND OPERATIONS Drive profitable sales in a subset of the New Jersey market (specifically the Bound Brook location will be your home store, and you will have oversight over the East Brunswick, and Woodbridge locations with those Store Managers as direct reports) through effective business analysis; identifying financial opportunities and developing action plans to address current/future business challenges and deliver desired results within assigned market.You will have all the accountabilities expected of a store manager for your home store, as well as the broader accountabilities and leadership below. Lead your home store and adapt it to become the New Jersey regional training store for staff working at that store and throughout the NJ region. Support RVP of New Jersey in delivering regional strategic goals and objectives to create a profitable retail business within the region.Drive an operational excellence mindset within your market; identifying best practices and opportunities to improve efficiency through consistent assessments of production layout, adherence to production processes, integrity in data reporting, ensuring product turnover(pulls) leading the execution of process improvements.Drive your market Ecommerce sales by holding store teams within the market accountable to execute all Ecommerce initiatives supporting the overall performance of the NJ region’s Ecommerce business.Lead compliance to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), policies and processes, creating consistency across your market and serve as a role model for other leaders within the region.Provide feedback to RVP of New Jersey on sales and KPI results, field issues, action plans and tactics to quantify progress compared to pre-established goals for both your market and broader NJ region.Ensure adherence to established payroll budget and expense management within the market.Proactively drive key performance indicators to deliver financial and operational excellence.Ensure you and the Store Managers that report to you within the market are cultivating a customer/donor-centric environment.Lead adoption of donor experience mindset and donation attendant role within your store and the market, aiding in the adoption through the region.Own market awareness of competitors and events, making recommendations to the RVP of New Jersey on partnerships and engagement. Each month, facilitate a store visit recap discussion within your market with store management teams to review audit results and develop timebound action plans to address opportunities providing feedback and recommendations for improvement to the RVP of New Jersey.Review store requests for product, equipment, and supplies, adhere to operations protocol for transporting inventory from the warehouse to stores/sites, and reinforce protocol and constructive engagement with the warehouse among store teams in the market. Support store leaders within your market to partner with the operations team, including Facilities and Asset Protection departments, on projects as needed.Continually assess store layouts, fixture quantity and placement by category, providing recommendations to the RVP of New Jersey to promote a shoppable space and implement merchandising strategies that will maximize market sales per square foot. Ensure brand positioning within your market in terms of image and presentation is consistent with the brand’s vision, strategy, and identity.Act as a proactive and positive change agent by identifying gaps and opportunities to develop solutions and move your home store, market and the region forward, remaining aware of each store's unique strengths and challenges.Develop and maintain strong relationships and collaboration with peers, cross functional partners, and corporate partners to leverage expertise in driving Goodwill’s strategic initiatives within the market. LEADERSHIP, TALENT, AND CULTURE Cultivate a work environment that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive, and ensure that the uniqueness of each employee is respected, thus offering all employees the means to find their place and thrive.Responsible for the performance management and engagement of a well-trained, highly diverse home store team and market leadership team that will support the growth and succession needs of the Retail division.Mentor and coach leaders within the market to identify solutions and develop their managerial skills.Champion performance and accountability culture at all levels within the market and maximize each FTE by leveraging all available performance management tools, in partnership with HR.For home store strategically manage scheduling optimization; match to traffic and regularly analyze the workforce and business to ensure the right team structure, front of house vs. back of house assignments, and FT/PT ratio and work with your market store leaders to do the sameSupport and empower market store leaders to make decisions that align with Goodwill NYNJ’s brand values and strategies.Partner with RVP of New Jersey and HR to identify skill gaps and opportunities for staff development within the market.Lead resolution and mitigation of all employee relation issues within the market partnering with HR and the RVP of New Jersey as needed.Inspire and coach market store leadership to consistently demonstrate behaviors that result in high employee morale, customer and donor engagement driving the attainment of aggressive sales goals.Responsible for the culture within the market, mirroring the one cultivated within the Retail department.Support market store leaders with consistent coaching, identify their development needs, and utilize key business partners to elevate their performance. Understand and analyze competition, local environments and market trends and ensure business strategies are developed to maximize opportunities within the market. Maintain a pulse on talent in assigned market, supporting store leaders with talent mapping and calibration to build a strong local network and establish an external talent bench.Explore initiatives and propose innovative ideas to recruit donors and maximize the local market potential.Model a philanthropic mindset within the market to drive awareness and community engagement. Qualifications: Describe the minimum educational and experience requirements/preferences. Who You AreMinimum 7-10 years with a fast-moving specialty retailer or a national consumer goods company, preferably in apparel, fashion, footwear with preference for thrift experience.Minimum 7-10 years managing a retail team.Minimum 5 years working in a store environment.Ability to evaluate store and area indicators and translate them into action to drive results.Able to build collaborative and effective relationships at all levels.Ability to build strong teams and be assertive in driving successful goal achievement strategies.Superb communication and influencing skills.
