POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The City is currently recruiting for a "Help Desk Intern. "

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Information Systems Coordinator, The Help Desk Intern will assist the IT department with the support, maintenance, and deployment of the City's computer equipment and peripherals. Installs hardware, software, and peripherals and provides technical assistance and computer support to other departments. Assists in staff training for the various software applications used within the City. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. Responsibilities of the Help Desk Intern will include but not be limited to:

· Assist in the oversight of the daily performance of computer systems.

· Answer user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operation to resolve problems.

· Set up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper cables, operating systems, or appropriate software installation.

· Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.

· Field incoming requests to the Help Desk via telephone and email to ensure courteous, timely, and effective resolution of end-user issues.

· Prioritize and schedule problem resolution. Escalate the problem (when required) to the appropriate staff member.

· Refer major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service.

· Access software updates, drives, knowledge bases, and FAQ resources on the internet/intranet to aid in problem resolution.

· Identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization.

· Perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, and configuring systems and applications.

· Test fixes to ensure the problem has been adequately resolved.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Formal Education:

· Currently enrolled in a Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field degree plan or a recent graduate of a listed degree plan.

Training (License and/or Certification):

§ Texas Class C driver's license.
