We are looking to hire a dynamic and passionate Peer Advocate who is client centered, community focused and is a self-starter.
Position Summary
LifeSpring is a growing program that assists Youth and Young Adults (YYA) who are exiting the foster care system as well as those experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. Under the supervision of the LifeSpring Program Manager, the YYA Peer Advocate assists YYAs and assures that the Drop in Center is functioning from a housing first model. The Peer Advocate makes sure that the YYA's needs and wants are being heard and addressed, that YYA's are getting assistance in obtaining safe, stable, inclusive housing that supports independence and permanent connection. The Peer Advocate assures that all services provided are being implemented through a youth driven, wellness and recovery model that is strength based, culturally relevant, trauma informed and outcome based that supports self-sufficiency. The Peer Advocate will assist in developing life skills, obtaining employment, exploring entrepreneurial opportunities, and pursuing educational goals. YYA Advocates will create a warm and welcoming environment so YYA's will feel safe and accepted. YYA Peer Advocates will provide basic needs to YYA's when they enter the Drop in Center and carry a small caseload. YYA Peer Advocates will help YYA's get connected to a Case Manager for more intensive case management if that is something the YYA feels would be helpful to them. Possess knowledge and expertise in relationship to transitional aged youth, specifically former foster youth, CSEC/HT and/or homeless youth, and the specific issues surrounding this population and demonstrate excellent engagement skills
Required Education and Experience
- Applicant must have lived experience and working knowledge of social support systems.
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Knowledge of homelessness, mental health, and substance use/misuse impact on YYA population.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Excellent organizational skills
- Creative approach to problem solving
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and passion for their work
- Open minded, collaborative spirit, and willingness to implement change
- Demonstrate knowledge of trauma informed, client driven, and culturally competent care.
Other Requirements
Must have a California driver license and good driving record. Willing to use own, properly insured, reliable vehicle for the client transportation (mileage reimbursed). Employment subject to clearances, including background finger printing checks, driving record, tuberculosis testing, and drug testing.
Specific Activities
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Monitor the Drop in Center Intake Line and Conduct Intakes
- Carry a small caseload of YYAs requiring less intensive case management
- Provide basic needs assistance (food, water, new clothing, hygiene products, access to shower and do laundry, etc.)
- Connect YYA's to non-housing resources based on their needs.
- Connect YYA to a Case Manager that will provide more intensive case management.
- Initiate and organize outreach efforts
- Create, organize, and facilitate the various groups and outings.
- Participate in the collaborative meetings with other community partners
- Maintain programmatic documentation
- Participate in staff meetings, supervision, training programs, etc.
- Maintain the drop-in center (cleanliness, ensure rules are being followed, food orders and basic needs inventory)

Work Schedule
40 hours, full-time, Monday-Friday from 8:30am-5pm (In Person)
