Overnight Security Officer

The Hotel Security/Night Houseman Position is responsible for the Safety and Security of our hotel and our guests as well as the cleanliness of the hotel during the evening hours. Security is vital to the success of hotels and properties. Guests bring valuables and important papers into their hotel rooms. While we provide safety deposit boxes for our guests’ jewelry and money, they need to feel protected at every stage of their stay. And guests must be able to sleep in a hotel, unfettered by concerns of danger. As the Security/Night Houseman the cleanliness of the hotel during the evening hours includes but is not limited to the entire lobby, all entrances including glass doors and windows, Men's and Ladies Rooms, Front Office Reception, Lounge, Markets; also, to perform other miscellaneous jobs as requested by housekeeping and or engineering managers. In addition to the above duties, you are responsible to provide our guests with clean and safe transportation to and from the hotel and the guest destination regularly. Offering information regarding the hotel and assisting the guest as needed; as well as maintaining a high standard of service and hospitality.
Houseman Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain the lobby and lounge area as needed.
- Assist in the distribution of soiled linens, sheets, terry, and pillowcases.
- Distribute clean linen to the floor linen rooms when laundry attendants need assistance.
- Assist housekeepers with supplies, cribs, and rollaway.
- Empty Trash and linen from housekeepers’ carts.
- Clean and maintain floor linen rooms.
- Clean outside parking areas of trash and debris.
- Vacuum corridors and stairways.
Security Responsibilities
- Patrols: Security guards in hotels must move around to patrol the various parts of a property. They check the doors and stairwells to make sure the locks are secure, and no danger is lurking. Most hotel managers like to see the security guard in the lobby, especially when large groups arrive and during busy morning and afternoon times to provide guests with a sense of security. Guards must patrol outdoors as well as room hallways and activity areas, such as the pool and spa. Guards are to keep up patrols and maintain communication with the front desk through the radio.
- Response: Hotel security officers respond to complaints and calls for help. Whether the guard hears a cry for help or is summoned by the front desk, he/she must be prepared to rush to aid their co-worker and calm the guest or guests to control a situation or until the local police can arrive if necessary.
- Surveillance: It is typically the role of the security team to maintain and monitor security cameras, alarm systems, and other electronic surveillance equipment. Working cameras are great deterrents to crime and can allow one security guard to watch numerous locations on the property simultaneously.
- Escorts: The security guard on duty often is called to escort unruly patrons from the property. Our hotel has a small bar located on the property and counts on the security guard to maintain order if necessary. Loiterers not registered at the hotel may need an escort off the property, particularly if they are harassing guests.
- Administrative Duties: Job descriptions for hotel security officers include a requirement for flexibility. They must be available to work set shifts and cover alternate shifts when necessary. After each shift, the security officer must fill in a report and communicate all activities he encountered during his working time. A thorough report can alert the next shift and managers to areas that need extra attention.
