About the "Department"

  • The laboratory at Montrose Regional Health is fully accredited by the Joint Commission of Accredited Healthcare Organizations and registered by the State of Colorado. It is staffed by certified medical technologists and technicians working under the supervision of two full-time pathologists. The "lab" at MRH is a fascinating, busy, and interesting place.

About The Career:

  • Performs various chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Applies techniques used in the field of blood banking, hematology, serology, chemistry and morphological examinations. Records test results, quality control, remedial action and may also engage in research.

All About You:

  • Education: The employee must fulfill one of the following education requirements as required by CLIA regulations.
  • Master's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological science; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological science.
  • Applicants without current certification take and pass the ASCP, NCA (MT/MLS) or equivalent exam within 6 months of hire. In the event that the employee does not pass registry exam the employee will be placed on probation and must retake and pass exam within three months as a condition of employment. In the event that the registration exam is not passed on the second attempt, the employee will not be eligible to be employed as a Medical Technologist until receiving a passing score on the registry exam.
  • Training and experience: Must have at least 3 months of training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing. Training may include previous employment, on-site or as part of an education curriculum.
  • Job Knowledge: Complete operational ability in all lab areas.
