You will work closely with the Collections Team to maintain and care for our invaluable collections, including items owned, on loan, and managed by the Andrew Jackson Foundation. What you will be doing:

  • Perform routine housekeeping duties in interior spaces of historic buildings and in exhibition areas.
  • Observe and report maintenance, safety, pest, mechanical systems, or other similar issues in historic buildings and exhibition areas.
  • Perform tasks outlined in the cyclical maintenance plan for historic buildings and exhibition areas.
  • Assist with special installations in historic buildings and exhibition areas.
  • Perform routine preservation maintenance procedures under supervision.
  • Assist with collections projects as assigned under supervision.
  • Monitor anyone (internal or external personnel) requiring access to historic buildings or exhibition areas.
  • Interact with Hermitage visitors, guests, and staff in a friendly, informative manner; ensure safety and security of staff, visitors, and collections.

What you will need:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Detailed oriented.
  • Knowledge of proper procedures in caring for collections and property in a museum and/or historic site or similar environment preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical work, exerting up to 40 pounds of force unassisted, climbing, stooping, bending, lifting, and including such activities as fingering, grasping, and repetitive tasks. Exposures include dust, mold, cleaning products, varying weather conditions, and moderate noise level.
