Scrap Metal Services, A leading global industrial services and recycling company in East Chicago, Indiana is seeking an exceptionally strong Accounts Receivable Clerk to join their team. This full-time opportunity is best suited for someone who is self-motivated to make things happen efficiently and accurately.

This role will support the VP of Finance in full cycle accounts receivable, billings, collections, and other ad hoc receivable related matters.

  • Generate invoices and statements for customers.
  • Process and apply customer payments and verify accuracy of billing and payment information.
  • Communicate with customers to resolve billing issues and disputes.
  • Perform credit checks on new customers and set credit limits.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer account information.
  • Monitor all account credit limits, holds and aging of receivables and communicate to the necessary parties when an account is over its limit.
  • Perform collection procedures on all past due and due invoices and identify problem accounts making prompt decisions for collection.
  • Creating and analyzing aging reports to identify overdue accounts.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes related to accounts receivable.
  • Strong working knowledge of credit principles and best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure of deadlines.
  • Excellent understanding of clerical and administrative procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in Credit and Collection.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accounting or Finance (or the equivalent in work experience).
  • ERP experience; preferably JDE. 


Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: 8 hour shift
