Front Desk Supervisor

Cordell Program

Bethesda, Maryland


8:00-4:00 pm shift, Monday - Friday


General Description: The Front Desk Supervisor provides overall leadership and guidance to the Front Desk staff at Cordell Place. The Front Desk Supervisor oversees the day to day operations of the front desk and ensures all necessary functions are performed by the staff.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision for all Front Desk Staff ensuring duties are fulfilled.
  • Administers performance evaluations and staff performance memos on regular basis.
  • Assists in screening and hiring new staff and provides comprehensive training regarding policies and procedures.
  • Creates and maintains monthly front desk staff schedule and ensures proper staff coverage at all times.
  • Works closely with Program Manager to ensure there is effective communication between case management and front desk staff.
  • Review documentation generated by/ for front desk for accuracy and send to proper case manager/ administrator.
  • Ensures that clients are safe and secure from internal and external elements. Call the police for any criminal activity/ potential activity.
  • Transport clients when requested
  • Assist the Tenant Council with refilling, purchasing, and managing money with the soda machine.
  • Assist with residents' activities.
  • Ensures that all Front Desk Staff communicate with clients, their families and guests with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Maintains and updates visitors’ log book, staff memos, banned guest list, etc….
  • Answers phone and directs calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Answers questions of a general nature; refers others to appropriate personnel for assistance.
  • Continuously monitors the conduct and behavior of residents/clients and guests; reports any unusual circumstances.
  • Assures that the front desk staff are trained and know how to perform “medication ingestion observation” and document in the Med. Log Book.
  • Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the reception area.
  • Prepares security alerts and incident reports.
  • Oversees the camera system is functional at all times. Insures that all front desk staff are trained in using the camera surveillance system. Reviews camera footage for unusual behaviors regularly and reports any observed.
  • Sells tokens for laundry following protocol
  • Assists residents with completing work orders
  • Manages in-house mail
  • Other duties, as assigned


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High school graduate.
  • Minimum of two years supervisory experience.
  • Functional knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet as well as proficiency in using e-mail/ Internet and camera system via Internet.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principals of housing first, trauma-informed care, self-determination and harm reduction.
  • Ability to proficiently operate the surveillance camera systems.
  • Ability to negotiate and facilitate positive relationships between tenants.
  • Ability to negotiate and maintain positive relationships with co-workers and clients.
  • CPR and Mandt Training certifications
