The Engineering Designer specializing in wear parts used in the mining and steel recycling industries is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing cast components and systems. This role involves collaborating with suppliers and sales personnel to ensure that products meet all performance, quality, and cost requirements. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in heavy industries (mining, crushing, shedding) and would be familiar with the foundry manufacturing process, while having experience in product design and strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Design and Development: Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of cast components using CAD software. Reverse engineering of parts is also within scope.  Drawing packages should be prepared for use by the manufacturer. 
     
  • Assembly Drawing Creation: Create assembly drawings for customers and internal use.  Drawings should specify the Bill of Materials (BOM) including castings and hardware.
     
  • Part/Drawing Selection: Search the databases for existing drawings for projects for both repeat and new applications.  
     
  • Simulation and Analysis: Perform casting simulations to predict and optimize the performance and manufacturability of cast parts as required.
     
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Sales team to meet customer’s expectations. 
     
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of designs, customer correspondence and specifications.
     
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all designs comply with relevant quality standards and regulations.
     
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for design and process improvements to enhance performance, reduce costs, and increase manufacturability.
     
  • Customer Interaction: Help to troubleshoot problems in the field and communicate with customers to better understand their needs.
     
Qualifications:
  • Detail Oriented.  Drawings must be complete and accurate.
  • Personal and Technical Learner. Must be open to learning about products and software
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Can work independently
  • Experience in foundry products/castings and heavy industries is preferred. 
  • Cad skills: 3D Modeling and Reverse Engineering (company uses Creaform, VXelements for scanning and Solid Edge for CAD work.)
     
Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.  Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred. 
  • 5 years+ in product design is required.
  • CAD Design Software/Microsoft Office Suite
