The SwimRVA Programs Manager is a leader of people. The Manager is a teacher, trainer, coach and mentor for program coordinators, instructors and camp counselors. The Manager will be responsible for managing the hiring process in collaboration with SwimRVA administration. The Manager will support the growth and expansion of SwimRVA with well-trained staff by teaching exciting and dynamic onboarding and training programs. They will be responsible for daily performance, bi-annual evaluations and professional development of programs coordinators, instructors and counselors. The Manager will be responsible for staff scheduling and force readiness. The Manager will create an exciting atmosphere for SwimRVA service to the community through well trained and motivated staff. They will be responsible for recording program assessment data and will work with leadership to improve the impact of SwimRVA programs. The Manager is a great communicator and loves to support individuals navigating the workforce for the first time. The Manager is the developer of the SwimRVA magic, our people.

SwimRVA is a metrics-based, programmatic entity that holds all employees to established goals and metrics for the organization. This position will require non-traditional hours to include evenings, early mornings and weekends. As a growth-based organization we will be expected to rely on each other to accomplish targets in alignment with the mission of the organization. Your flexibility and can-do spirit are tremendous assets to the long-term success of SwimRVA.

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Programs the Programs Manager will focus on support of the SwimRVA programs service delivery. They will help achieve the following results:

  • Develop a creative and fun learning environment consistent with our mission to change lives through aquatics
  • Support the administrative service delivery and evaluation of Swim School, Learn-To-Swim and camps.
  • Improve and expand impact of SwimRVA programs by assisting with the design and implementation of new programs, instructor and counselor training and in-services.
  • Provide a safe, secure and educational experience to SwimRVA participants and parents while promoting our brand in the community
  • Provide participants with quality services; programs and leadership thus helping SwimRVA achieve higher impact levels

The Programs Manager job duties:

  • Create and exciting, dynamic and efficient hiring, onboarding and training environment that welcomes and ensures staff are well trained and confident SwimRVA teammates.
  • Ensure maximum service impact through effective scheduling of staff talent and systems oversight.
  • Elevate SwimRVA's impact through advancing the skills, performance and careers of all assigned staff.
  • Oversee the delivery of SwimRVA programs and assessment data for maximum impact in RVA.
  • Perform any duties given by the Executive Director, Director of Communications, Director of Programs, Director of Life Safety and any other staff to help the TEAM.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work and relate well with children and adults (ages 6 months-and up)
  • College degree-required or 5+ years of management experience
  • CPR and AED for Adult and Child- required or able to obtain certification
  • Swimming experience preferred
  • Ability to work in high stress conditions, using critical thinking, and customer service savvy
  • Must be able to show great customer service to all customers and employee teammates of SwimRVA
  • Excitement to train and develop team members
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as a rotating member of SwimRVA's manager on duty roster for events.
