Job Summary

Water Conditioning Service Technicians at Martin Water are experts in residential water systems. They diagnose and service water conditioning and drinking water systems in the homes of our customers.  They perform routine maintenance on the system, and in the case of system issues, provide information and options based on their diagnosis.  They then recommend related options to offer a solution that will solve the customer’s problem. They follow up on related details as needed. 

Water Conditioning Service Technicians are responsible for building relationships with customers, co-workers and manufacturers.  They are the face of Martin Water and are expected to conduct business in a professional way that honors our legacy and mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Are you the type of person that ignores a piece of trash on the floor…or would you pick it up?

The successful Water Conditioning Service Team Member will possess a great attitude and a servant’s heart.  We believe that the technical aspect of your role is essential; we provide a great deal of training in this area.  You will be diagnosing, maintaining and servicing these systems in the customers’ homes.  This position is an outside service position, meaning that your day will be spent in your van visiting homes. 

Your professional demeanor and attitude also play a tremendous part in the fit that you will be on the team.  We are looking for a Team Member who can work within the team but also must take initiative independent of direct supervision.

Our goal for you is to be considered a Trusted Advisor to our customers rather than a hard-shelled expert focused on the task at hand.   

Being a Trusted Advisor also requires empathy and tact, especially when faced with a challenging situation.  Good communication skills are essential when dealing with customers as well as other Team Members who might be in different locations.

Strength is required as this is a physical job with many products weighing a great deal.  You will be using trucks, hand carts and your muscles and will deliver bags of salt up to 100 pounds, so the successful candidate should be physically fit.

This position will require working a variety of hours that may include early mornings, weeknights and Saturdays and at certain times, extra hours beyond the normal schedule. 

You will be entrusted to operate a company vehicle and are responsible for coordinating the maintenance of that vehicle, including scheduling routine oil changes and inspections, and other necessary service.  You are also responsible to see that the vehicle is kept clean and tidy both inside and outside.

Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

Competencies

You can read and write English and perform basic math functions that would commonly be found in a retail sales environment.  Your interpersonal skills are great; you can read, write and otherwise communicate effectively with managers, Team Members and customers. 

The successful candidate can use a computer, tablet or smartphone to send emails, order online products and are comfortable using these pieces of technology.  You can also operate copiers, scanners and other forms of technology commonly found in an office.

You are enthusiastic, friendly and energetic and possess a genuine desire to provide outstanding service.  You are slow to anger and can remain calm in most situations.

You enjoy learning and gaining knowledge, and you possess good decision-making skills.

If you diagnose a water system that clearly needs to be replaced, you are comfortable walking the customer through the sales process and selling that customer a unit that will solve their problem.

You are comfortable in a professional environment and you are concerned with your own neatness and cleanliness.  You can multi-task, handling the needs of customers as well as being flexible to the needs of the company.  People would describe you as detail-oriented and mechanically inclined. You probably work on your own car and fix the broken toaster rather than buy a new one. 

A clean driving record is required.

Physical Demands

This position involves constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, lifting, grabbing and standing.  You will also need to stoop, kneel, crouch, travel up and down stairs and be able to lift up to 100 pounds unassisted and 250 pounds with assistance.  You will drive or ride in a van to customer’s homes, deliver bags of salt and service and/or diagnose the existing water system(s).
