Opportunity: Training Specialist - Federal Government Contractor

Opportunity Overview

SD Solutions seeks a Training Specialist/Coordinator (TS) to join our team in support of a contract project with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Facilities and Asset Management (OFAM). This position reports to the Training & Development Manager and Branch Chief and Team Lead Communications and Workforce Strategy within the Business Operations Division. The TS will primarily focus on staff training coordination, managing the smooth and effective functioning of designated training programs, and ensuring those programs meet all client directed requirements. This involves some marketing, planning, execution of ongoing and tailored training programs, and assistance in planning and facilitating specialized training programs for client staff. They will also be responsible for the implementation of a planned training schedule and any changes or updates to that schedule, as well as detailed editing and correction of produced content. This position is located in Indianapolis, IN.

Responsibilities Include

  • Ensure all personnel obtain their required and otherwise signed-up-for training
  • Coordinate solicitation of training requests and submission for leadership prioritization and approval
  • Work with Operations, Subject Matter Experts, and other key stakeholders to identify target audience training needs
  • Ability to assist senior staff in the analysis and improvement of the division's training framework and strategy (resource allocation, selection criteria, career progression paths, etc.)
  • Create training materials such as case studies, Master Scenario Events List (MSELs), PowerPoint presentations, eLearning modules, manuals, roll call and handouts
  • Review training materials for accuracy and standards compliance, and ability to develop and publish policy guidance, particularly regarding safety related training
  • Maintain training documents and records, monitor compliance with CBP mandatory trainings, guide certification process for PMO employees
  • Develop and maintain policies and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Maintain a core level of daily duty functional practice to provide training insights to management and assist in the construction and implementation of new training projects and opportunities
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements Overview

  • Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of experience
  • Have a training background (required); experience in training design and delivery
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office - SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Prefer experience with PowerBI
  • Good administrative skills and the ability to put together and execute the components of the training program, especially its different components - mandatory training, discretionary training, National Training Plan (NTP), and OFAM group courses, etc.
  • Ability to take initiative and be proactive without waiting for direction
  • Ability to develop and maintain meaningful relationships with several stakeholders across PMO spectrum
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex information and to effectively motivate small and large groups
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a CBP suitability

Superstar Qualifications

  • Experience in the use of different development methodologies
  • Experience managing training strategies and programs for large nationally disbursed teams; CBP OFAM has two specific training audiences - everyone (for mandatory, discretionary, OFAM group, etc.) and the those eligible for NTP-sponsored training
  • Be flexible and deal with change in a rapid, evolving climate
  • Obsessed about the customer experience; never settle for good enough, and continually inspire others to do better for the customer
  • Have excellent public speaking and verbal communication skills in a corporate environment
  • Willingness to work in different areas as required by training needs
  • Candidates must be very organized and able to handle multiple and changing projects/priorities
  • Knowledge of learning management systems and E- learning tools
  • Experience delivering Virtual Training or working with remote teams CBP or other DHS component training and development experience
  • Hold a current, active CBP or DHS Public Trust suitability background investigation
  • Experience working within the government
