Job Title: Residential HVAC Sales Representative

Department: Retail Department

Work Hours: This position is considered full-time. As an exempt employee, there are no set hours for this position. Generally, this position is expected to be available and working during normal business hours, which are currently 7a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. At times, the needs of the business may require work outside of these hours.


FLSA Status: Sales Exempt

Pay Scale: 100% Commission as outlined in Employment Agreement

Primary Job Function: Build long-term relationships with new and existing customers by helping them form a comprehensive plan for their HVAC system(s) through planned maintenance, equipment and accessory sales and facilitate the execution of sold projects.

Reports to: Director of Sales & Marketing


Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ Years of HVAC Experience
  • 1+ Years of Sales Experience
  • Ability to sell in a consultative manner with education in mind
  • Ability to inform and educate customers on features and benefits of equipment and indoor air quality products
  • Ability to inform and offer all customers rebates, incentives, and finance options
  • Ability to read blueprints, understand building codes, and equipment specs
  • Ability to design and understand all aspects of HVAC systems (ducting, structural, electrical, and mechanical)
  • Experience with Bluebeam and WrightSoft HVAC Design software.
    1. Ability to run your own heat load calculations
  • Job cost and estimating experience
  • Strong preparation, presentation, negotiating, and closing skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent verbal, writing, grammar, and communication skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to work independently and with a team
    • Timely in all work and attendance

    • Attention to detail, timeliness, and accuracy
    • Knowledge of the theory, methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the HVAC trade
    • Desire to continue training and education
    • Valid Driver’s License
    • Must complete pre-hire requirements per Company Policy

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build relationships and gain an In-depth understanding of business trade relationships to assist customers with energy-efficient and often subsidized improvements
  • Work with our customers both internal and external to identify and provide solutions, answer questions and objections in a proficient and responsible manner
  • Develop and nurture customer base using good communication and proven selling skills
  • Communicate with team members to provide thoughtful assessment and selection of projects to be bid including study of bidding documents for scope, compatibility, and alignment with company goals
  • Prepare quality estimates using company software, estimating forms and procedures
  • Preselect qualified sub-contractors and vendors for successful bid projects.
  • Supervise job progress and quality assurance
  • Work closely with operations to ensure consistent, clear communication
  • Write, deliver, and submit change orders for additional work or changes in scope of work to be completed.
  • Review estimate details and submit orders for job specific equipment and materials including custom metal orders
  • Consistent forecasting of sales pipeline 3-6 months out
  • Review contracts making sure pricing is correct, terms and conditions of contracts are correct.
  • Regularly check with client regarding start dates of project(s) until job is sold and project has been assigned to Operations for completion.
  • Responsible for reaching out to the sales coordinator(s) to trigger on-site meetings, if needed.
    1. If needed, attend scheduled On-site meetings to determine final HVAC design.
    2. Bring up any design issues that occur from on-site meetings and follow up with the client until issues are resolved
  • Complete job packets and submit in a timely manner
  • Self-sufficient in terms of paperwork, well organized and the ability to effectively communicate well with our installation and service team.
  • Pyramid will generate an undetermined number of leads and Sales Representative will be responsible for continued business development to generate leads and networking opportunities to increase your sales lead funnel. Some lead generation sources are:
    1. Home Shows
    2. Lead/Networking Groups
    3. Utility companies
    4. Direct mail
    5. Existing customer lists
    6. Service customers
    7. The Construction Monitor
    8. Homebuilders Association
    9. Yard Signs
    10. Referrals
  • Sales Representative will be expected to participate in various tradeshows and other networking opportunities designed to enhance and advance sales opportunities.
  • Sales Representative will be responsible to maintain employee provided car, equipment, and uniforms in good working condition.
  • Contact and follow up on accounts that are past due to help with accounts receivable
  • Work directly with Retail Manager to determine billing and revenue posting percentages
  • Report preparation and review
  • Always maintain a professional appearance
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Environment:

This job sometimes operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time including extreme weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud on a job site. The employee will be exposed to dark and confined spaces, extreme temperatures, extreme weather, and heights and work that is below ground.

  • Meeting monthly and yearly sales goals
  • Accuracy and timeliness of sales forecast data
  • Accuracy of load calculation, duct design and material lists
  • Installer ability to read and understand design documents
  • Timeliness of communication with Sales Coordinator and Operations Team
  • Client satisfaction
