Join Our Team as an Assistant Controller

Are you an experienced finance professional looking to advance your career in property management? Our reputable NYC property management company, with a dedicated team of 100 employees, is seeking a skilled Assistant Controller to join our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets and forecasts. Analyze variances and provide actionable insights.
  • Account Reconciliation: Oversee the reconciliation of bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and other financial documents for assigned residential properties.
  • Internal Controls: Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Audit Coordination: Support external and internal audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation.

Additional Specific Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management: Oversee the financial management of a designated portfolio of residential properties, including maintaining accurate records for refundable deposits and capital contributions.
  • Journal Entries: Post journal entries, including bank transfers, interest income, and expense reclassifications.
  • Variance Analysis: Review actual vs. budget performance variances and facilitate necessary cash transfers.
  • Annual Budgeting: Oversee annual budget preparation, present budgets at board meetings, and manage the year-end close process.
  • Audit Management: Coordinate the annual audit for the portfolio.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred).
  • At least 5 years of Real Estate Property Management accounting experience.
  • Experience with Yardi software and annual budget preparation.
  • Knowledge of asset management, cash flow management, and financial reporting for residential properties.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and internet research.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with employees and clients at all levels.

  • Ability to listen, communicate (written and verbal), and follow up effectively with all levels within the organization and clients.
  • Ability to perform accurately in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
