PURPOSE & RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will participate in new product development projects, application and production engineering of existing products, and the processes that bring them to fruition. An Embedded Systems Engineer works with Software Engineers and Electrical Engineers, taking complete ownership of, and responsibility for well-defined tasks in software life cycle from concept capture through end-of-life deprecation. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing their work product for design review, and for contributing to design review of other’s work. Agile software development methods are used daily by the Embedded Systems Engineer to guide progress and provide focus. Planning and process monitoring throughout the software life cycle are integral to the position’s responsibilities, as are specification, coding, testing and QA/QC of product.


Embedded real-time software systems, communications, embedded databases, and human interfaces are all aspects of LayerZero’s core competency in software engineering. The successful candidate will be able to contribute to this broad range of software engineering disciplines.

Requirements:

PRIMARY DUTIES:

This position embodies the following primary duties:

• Under the direction of Senior Engineers, design new embedded systems for new products and platforms.

• Implement significant new features and bug fixes to existing embedded systems.

• Develop in-depth understanding of complex SoC, DSP, FPGA, and similar components.

• Complete hardware/software co-design of new embedded systems.

• Create testing and verification strategies for embedded systems.

• Complete or assist with PCB layout.

• Review and select components for designs.

• Create release packages of documents to enter new designs into production.

• Participate in software team design and code reviews via on-line tools.

• Provide product technical support.

• Work with customers, both within LayerZero and end users, to define and capture requirements.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & EDUCATION:

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering – Required.

• Master of Science in the above disciplines – Highly Desired.

• Experience with C/C++ programming working closely with circuit design, systems and controls -- Required.

• Excellent knowledge of digital and high-speed circuit design.

• Experience with 3-phase AC power.

• Experience with embedded Linux and its build frameworks such as Yocto or Buildroot.

• Success with logic design HDLs such as Verilog or VHDL.

• Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking.

• Ability to follow coding rules and standards.

• Five or more years of success in embedded systems engineering.
