The BFS Mechanic oversees advanced preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs for all BFS equipment and systems. This role involves supervising and directing other team members, ensuring equipment readiness through line changeovers and mechanical setups according to the production schedule. The leader also provides specialized mechanical setups and training to the team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the go-to expert on BFS mechanical systems.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on BFS machines to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operations.
  • Efficiently handle equipment changeovers to support seamless transitions between different BFS products and setups.
  • Ensure proper setup of BFS equipment during startup, including parison, mold, and punch, and make significant adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Respond to production issues by troubleshooting and resolving equipment malfunctions to reduce downtime.
  • Monitor production processes to identify and implement improvements for greater efficiency and product quality.
  • Develop and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and related documentation, ensuring compliance with maintenance protocols.
  • Investigate and address technical issues to identify and eliminate root causes.
  • Stay updated on technical needs and supervise BFS mechanics, providing guidance and training.
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance programs, organizational policies, and legal requirements.
  • Conduct monthly preventative maintenance on all BFS equipment.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs on BFS and processing equipment, including mechanical and control systems.
  • Carry out scheduled and other critical maintenance tasks on BFS equipment, including specialized repairs.
  • Manage BFS line setups and changeovers as required.
  • Lead and organize departmental training programs, providing work direction to staff.
  • Adhere to company safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized maintenance workspace.
  • Support department goals for productivity and efficiency.
  • Train BFS operators and mechanics in maintenance techniques and operational excellence.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Strong written, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures and routine equipment inspections.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on quality and adherence to procedures.
  • The ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work occasional off-shift or on-call duties as needed.
  • Familiarity with regulatory guidelines and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).

Physical Demands:

  • Flexibility in working hours to meet job demands.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Capability to lift up to 65 pounds.
  • Ability to wear respiratory, hearing, and other protective equipment required in New Vision Pharmaceuticals facilities.
  • Must be able to wear cleanroom attire as needed.
  • Correctable 20/40 vision.
  • Ability to hear for effective communication.
  • Physical mobility to walk, bend, stand, crouch, or climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to sit or stand for a minimum of 8 hours per day.

Training:

  • The BFS Mechanic Leader will be trained on specific SOPs before handling related tasks.
  • Participation in cross-training programs as specified by the Engineering Manager to support manufacturing activities, investigations, and more.

Qualification Standards:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent with technical certifications or relevant vocational training.
  • Experience:
  • Experience as a BFS Mechanic and knowledge of BFS technology is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience working with manufacturing and BFS equipment or systems is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of mechanical engineering experience in a regulated food or OTC pharmaceuticals manufacturing environment is preferred.
