Job Description -The Primary, Middle and Upper School Math Teacher/Specialist provides direct and differentiated mathematics instruction while implementing program and student oriented goals to students who have learning differences.  The Lower, Middle and Upper School Math Teacher also plays an integral role in further development and implementation of a diverse and hands-on math curriculum

 

Position Summary: 

This position is for a Math Teacher/Specialist who will:

  • Provide direct and differentiated instruction to students with a variety of learning differences

  • Implement program goals

  • Be integral in further development and implementation of a diverse and hands-on math curriculum

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Align instruction with the mission of Oakland School  

  • Use evidence-based practices that promote student success across the curriculum

  • Demonstrate a flexible and reflective approach to teaching  

  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices throughout the school; share best practices

  • Use formative and summative assessments and document student progress and achievement

  • Communicate effectively with school administrators, classroom teachers, families, and students through face-to-face dialogue, written messages, and written reports to track and communicate progress

  • Involve parents and guardians as partners in their students’ education

  • Maintain accurate student records

  • Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Education / Experience / Skills Requirements:

Knowledge of child cognitive development and various learning styles, and capacity and willingness to reflect and improve instructional practices to better serve our students.

 

  • Degree from a fully accredited college or university appropriate for the level and licensure in the subject area to be taught.  

  • Math Specialist endorsement (preferred)

  • Experience teaching lower school, middle school and/or high school math 

  • Experience working with students who have learning differences

  • Possess knowledge of evidence-based practices that promote students’ success across the curriculum

  • Demonstrate understanding, appreciation, and empathy for students who learn differently

  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Possess excellent collaboration, and written and verbal communication skills

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.  Must have the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Must have the ability to understand and present materials and communicate with constituents and co-workers in a harmonious manner.
