Summary:

As a Punch Press Setup Technician, you will be responsible for setting up and operating punch press machines to produce metal parts according to specifications. Your primary duties will include preparing tooling, loading materials, adjusting machine settings, and ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the punch press. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting any issues that arise during production and performing routine maintenance tasks to keep the machines in optimal working condition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine Setup: Set up punch press machines according to job specifications, including installing and aligning tooling, adjusting die heights, and configuring machine settings.
  • Material Handling: Load metal sheets or coils onto the machine, ensuring proper alignment and positioning for accurate punching.
  • Quality Control: Monitor production output to ensure parts meet quality standards, including dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
  • Machine Operation: Operate punch press machines to produce parts efficiently and safely, adjusting settings as needed to maintain production rates and quality.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on punch press machines, such as lubrication, cleaning, and replacing worn or damaged parts.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot machine malfunctions or production issues, making adjustments or repairs as necessary to minimize downtime.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while operating punch press machines, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and following lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate production records, including job setups, material usage, and production counts.
  • Continuous Improvement: Suggest and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety in punch press operations.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with other team members, including machine operators, supervisors, and maintenance staff, to ensure smooth production flow and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Ability to work night shift 5p to 4p Monday through Friday; Saturday 3p to 11:15p.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in machine tool technology or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in punch press setup and operation in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand machine blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
  • Familiarity with various types of punch press machines (e.g., mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic) and their operation principles.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to machine operation and maintenance.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools and gauges to ensure accurate press setups.
  • Familiarity with a variety of presses, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical models.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform tasks that require bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
