We are seeking a dedicated Outside Sales Representative to join our experienced team in a key role. The successful candidate will actively work in the field, identifying and visiting potential customers to expand our market presence. We are looking for someone with wholesale or retail experience with the pet industry and pet food. This role involves routine travel within the assigned territory, including 8-13 overnight stays per month.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Customer Acquisition and Relationship Building:
    • Proactively identify and engage prospective customers to generate new accounts.
    • Conduct regular outreach to potential customers through various channels, including in-person visits, phone calls, and emails.
    • Develop and implement strategies to build and maintain long-term relationships with customers, understanding their business strategies, needs, and budgets.
    • Visit current and prospective customers regularly to present our product offerings and establish Northland Natural Pet as a reliable distributor.
  2. Sales and Product Placement:
    • Identify opportunities for new product and brand placement with existing accounts.
    • Organize and maintain a route schedule to maximize customer engagement and territory coverage.
    • Place new store sets and implement merchandising improvements to enhance product visibility.
  3. Marketing and Promotion:
    • Support and utilize company and vendor promotions to drive sales and improve retailer margins and product selection.
    • Conduct in-store product training sessions for store employees and pet owners.
    • Participate in consumer events to present and demonstrate products, increasing brand awareness.
  4. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Develop relationships with manufacturer representatives, including coordinating ride-alongs and sales support activities.
    • Communicate effectively with team members, attend team meetings and coordinate sales/service efforts with inside sales and service staff.
    • Continuously expand product and brand knowledge through ongoing learning and development.
  5. Reporting and Analysis:
    • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions and sales activities.
    • Provide regular reports on sales performance, customer feedback, and market trends.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in pet food or pet industry, retail or wholesale.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
  • Knowledge of the pet nutrition industry and holistic health care is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and other relevant software.
  • Ability to maintain a clean driving record and travel routinely within the assigned territory. (MN, WI, IA, Eastern ND, SD & NE)
  • Desire to fill a key roll and grow within the company.
