Job Title: Construction Yard Operations Assistant/Mechanic

Job Summary: The construction yard assistant/mechanic is responsible for providing support to the maintenance and repair activities within a construction yard or site. This role involves assisting mechanics in servicing construction equipment, vehicles, and machinery to ensure they are operating efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities:

  1. Equipment Maintenance: Assist in the maintenance and repair of construction equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, dump trucks, and other heavy machinery.

  2. Routine Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of construction equipment to identify any mechanical issues or potential problems. Report findings to senior mechanics or supervisors.

  3. Diagnosis and Repair: Assist mechanics in diagnosing mechanical problems and performing necessary repairs to ensure construction equipment is in good working condition.

  4. Parts Management: Support in managing spare parts inventory, including ordering, receiving, and organizing parts to facilitate maintenance activities and minimize downtime.

  5. Cleaning and Lubrication: Clean and lubricate equipment components to prevent corrosion and ensure smooth operation. Perform basic cleaning and maintenance tasks on vehicles and machinery.

  6. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while performing maintenance and repair tasks. Follow proper procedures for handling tools, equipment, and hazardous materials.

  7. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspection reports, and equipment service logs.

  8. Assist with Equipment Movements: Assist in moving and transporting construction equipment within the yard or site using forklifts, cranes, or other machinery as needed.

  9. Assist with Site Operations: Provide support for construction site operations as required, including loading and unloading materials, organizing equipment storage areas, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Previous experience in construction equipment maintenance preferred.
  3. Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and hydraulic systems.
  4. Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
  5. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  6. Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  7. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  8. Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor tasks.
  9. Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  10. Valid driver's license may be required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work primarily takes place in a construction yard or site environment.
  • May be exposed to noise, dust, fumes, and hazardous materials.
  • Requires standing, bending, lifting, and carrying heavy objects.
  • Work hours may vary and could include weekends or evenings depending on project requirements.
