Flybar, The 100 year old start-up is looking for creative, passionate developers to create the next amazing toys.

The Flybar Product Development Manager will be responsible for driving the execution of toy products from concept through production, and ensuring performance, cost, quality, and schedule adherence. The position will provide expertise in proven techniques for successful product development and design. The PD manager will work closely with large cross-functional teams (Design, Marketing, Engineering, Quality, Packaging, sourcing team in China, etc.) to manage development throughout the entire product lifecycle. Responsibilities include, leading technical development of products, defining product specifications, identifying risks and opportunities to preempt development obstacles, working with leadership team to balance business, design, and technical objectives. The person in this role will need to operate in a highly dynamic environment, and consistently be solutions oriented.

What our PD manager will do?

  • Collaborate with Brand team on generating new concepts, and provide technical and cost assessment
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure milestones are on-time
  • Provide/seek mechanical/engineering/safety expertise throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Lead prototyping and proof-of-concept builds to test play pattern, key features
  • Create product and performance specifications
  • Be key point of contact with Sourcing and Merchandising teams in China, and ensure alignment on all project details
  • Lead product review meetings and create action plan for all milestones and deliverables
  • Anticipate, analyze, resolve, and escalate project issues
  • Partner with responsible departments to ensure all projects are on-cost, on-spec, on-time
  • Use all tracking tools to manage & track key deliverables and proactively resolve future issues to keep the product on track, on cost, and on specification
  • Improve efficiency in the PD process through continuous improvement
  • Explore new materials, technology, and manufacturing processes

What we require in a PD Manager?

  • Provide strong leadership to drive innovative and cost-effective design solutions
  • Working with and/or manage creative professionals (designers and engineers) both within and outside the company
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • "Hands-on" approach to solving problems
  • Prioritization and management of multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Critical thinking and problem solving techniques for all issues.
  • Willingness to actively engage other support teams to drive towards problem resolution.
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Analytical skills, technical and business
  • Available to travel in North America and internationally
  • Work independently with minimal supervision in technical and organizational capacities
  • Consideration for team feedback and appropriately changing course if required.
  • Partnering on strategic business planning

PD Manager skills and experience?

  • 5+ years Product development and project management experience
  • Toy or consumer good experience an asset
  • Experience with plastics, materials, manufacturing, and/or engineering costs for durable goods
  • Experience working with and/or managing creative professionals (designers and engineers) both within and outside the company.
  • Experience with process management
