Manager of Billing and Collections Operations

Hybrid Role - Candidate must work a commutable distance from Downtown Mobile, AL.  

This role is responsible for the strategic management and day-to-day operations of the billing, credit and collections, and cash application processes. Key responsibilities include ensuring timely and accurate billings, establishing and meeting monthly collection targets, processing new accounts, negotiating with customers, and managing past due accounts, policies, and processes.

Essential Functions:

In addition to the activities outlined above, specific responsibilities include:

- Leading the Billing, Credit and Collections, and Cash Application teams, and establishing and monitoring monthly departmental and individual collection goals based on measurable results.
- Managing the team's day-to-day operations, providing guidance, analysis, and resolving issues.
- Focusing on KPIs to ensure customer payments are made according to agreed terms.
- Managing accounts receivable aging, bad debt reserves, and write-offs.
- Supporting the cash application team to ensure timely and accurate cash application.
- Coordinating dispute resolution in cooperation with Sales, Operations, and Legal functions.
- Leading the team to peak performance, streamlining processes, driving change, generating efficiencies, and establishing, improving, and documenting credit and collections-related processes and controls in alignment with company policies.
- Supporting the Corporate Controller in cash management and forecasting processes.
- Conducting analysis and gaining a full understanding of the customer base and related risk, and reviewing hold and blocked lists.
- Managing interactions and communications with credit and collections agencies.
- Evaluating proper staffing levels and facilitating the staffing, training, motivation, and development of the team.
- Demonstrating strong leadership experience with an analytical, collaborative, and positive mindset.

Minimum Requirements:

Education/Experience/Certification Requirements:

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business or Accounting.

Skills/Competencies:

- Advanced MS Excel skills.
- Strong external and internal customer orientation and engagement.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills.
- Strong analytical and organizational abilities.
- Solid time management capabilities.
- High level of professionalism.
- Sound judgment with the ability to make measured risk decisions.
