Job DescriptionJob Description

Paralegals support attorneys and oversee the case management process at law firms. They organize and maintain case files, help manage caseload requirements, and monitor budgets, timelines, and billing for case completion. Paralegal conducts extensive legal research, drafts legal documents and case summaries, propounds and responds to discovery, and reviews documents for compliance with strict legal requirements. They make recommendations to attorneys regarding cost and time effective ways to accomplish the client’s goals and they keep the client and outside counsel abreast of the current case status as requested. Paralegal Responsibilities

• Assists attorneys with all aspects of case management, including docketing deadlines, billing, and providing reminders as necessary

• Coordinates between attorneys, staff, and outside vendors to manage the law firm’s case load, present case summaries/updates, and ensure that deadlines are met

• Organizes and maintain all case files, and information concerning engagement, whether electronic or paper, in accordance with the law firm policies

• Conducts legal research via Lexis Advance or Westlaw Next

• Propounds and responds to discovery

• Assists attorneys during the initial stages through the final stages of litigation in both plaintiff and defense cases

• Drafts legal documents for attorney review

• Reviews legal documents to ensure adherence to all legal requirements

• Consults with attorneys and provide recommendations with regard to cost and time-effective ways to accomplish the client’s goals

• Communicates case status with clients and outside counsel as requested Paralegal Qualifications

• A Declaration pursuant to Business and Professions Code Section 6450 or an Associate’s Degree or higher in Paralegal Studies from an ABA-accredited institution

• At least five (5) years of experience working as a Family Law and a Plaintiff and/or Civil Defense Paralegal

• Background in family law, civil prosecution and civil defense

• Ability to learn or possess experience in drafting legal documents and conducting legal research is vital

• Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet presentation, and case management software • Self-starter with the ability to effectively manage multiple matters and/or tasks at once

• Ability to work independently and collectively

• Possesses exceptional organizational skills as well as effective communication skills, both written and oral • Reliable, dependable, and strong work ethic

• Self-motivated • Previous case management process and/or paralegal experience is preferred • Ability to perform other legal and/or administrative duties as assigned • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
