The Bilingual Sexual Assault Service Advocate directly supports the ACTS mission to serve community members experiencing a crisis. The Sexual Assault Advocate provides individual and group support, on-scene crisis response, court advocacy, and coordination of services as well as referrals for victims of sexual assault. Most services provided primarily to Spanish-speaking clients and family.

Position Title and Department: Bilingual Sexual Assault Service Advocate, Sexual Assault Services

Salary:$47,581 per year

Reports to: Director of Sexual Assault Services

Hours per week and schedule: 40 hours, Monday through Friday, 9am- 5pm, flexibility for client needs or events required

Pay Type: Salary (not OT eligible)

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Provides crisis intervention services to sexual assault survivors and their families.
  2. Participates in a rotating on-call schedule.
  3. Assists sexual assault survivors with the stabilization of their lives after victimization.
  4. Assists sexual assault survivors with understanding and participating in the criminal justice system through court accompaniment and advocacy.
  5. Coordinates and co-facilitates support groups for sexual assault victims and their families.
  6. Provides on-scene crisis response, such as hospital accompaniment for sexual assault victims.
  7. Responds to sexual assault victims in need of immediate support, both while in the office and on call.
  8. Maintains case management system, client records and statistical data relevant to sexual assault victims.
  9. Processes sexual assault trauma cases with crisis line volunteers, advocates and group facilitators.
  10. Completes 40 hours of sexual and domestic violence intervention training (provided by ACTS the first year) and other essential internal and external training as required.
  11. Represents the agency on local task forces and committees.
  12. Provides training to allied professionals and community education.
  13. Provides support, information, and referral to ACTS callers.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude at all times

  • Ability to professionally manage crisis, trauma, and otherwise disturbing information

  • Ability to collect, report and in-put data into several databases
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with media outlets
  • Ability to learn new software
  • Ability to arrive on-scene within 90 minutes while on-call
  • Hold a valid driver’s license; acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance, and daily access to a vehicle.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record insurable by our insurance carrier and able to drive a van.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current trends, resources and information related to crisis management, sexual assault, and victim relations.

Education and Experience:

  • Meets one of the following three criteria:
    • A bachelor’s degree in human services, behavioral sciences or allied field (including criminal justice, education and psychology)
    • AA degree in human services, behavior sciences or allied field (including criminal justice, education and psychology) with 4 years of documented related experience
    • No college degree in human services, behavioral sciences or allied field (including criminal justice, education and psychology) with 5 years of documented related experience.
  • A bachelor’s in human services or behavioral sciences, preferred
  • Experience dealing with clients in crisis, as well as experience as a group facilitator and presenter, required
  • Experience in public speaking and presenting to large audiences, required
  • Bilingual capability (English and Spanish) required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
