Shift: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Length: Position is full-time however, is based on candidate’s experience and may be a temp-to-hire
 
3 must haves:

 

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

 
SUMMARY

  • Level One: Under minimal supervision, performing plugging, masking, and ID painting operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work planning: 

    • Meet with the manager for work status review & planning.

  • Equipment round-up: 

    • Plan, gather paint, applicator, brooms, tape, acetone, rags, measuring tools, etc.

  • Protecting the work area & others: 

    • Meet with work area owners & affected personnel. Discuss expectations and cordon off the work area with caution tape, cones, and signs.

  • Preparing the surface: 

    • Cleaning, priming, and preparing the surface ensure the paints adhere properly.

  • Transferring design: 

    • Transferring a design onto the painting surface.

    • Mixing paint: Preparing the primer & paint by mixing/stirring paint manually.

    • Applying the underpainting: Adding an initial layer of paint, usually a thin and transparent layer, to establish the basic tones and composition of the painting.

  • Building up the painting: 

    • Adding multiple layers of paint, each building upon the previous layer, until the desired level of detail and texture is achieved.

  • Drying:  

    • Allowing the paint to dry completely

    • Equipment cleaning, maintenance, and storage:

    • Check completed work:

    • Check paint is dry the result is satisfactory or better.

    • Confirm with the department manager.

    • Release the area to operations.

  • Hazards:

    • Working with hazardous chemicals: Working with hazardous chemicals can cause health risks

    • Surroundings: Be cautious and aware of surrounding vehicle traffic, machinery operation, overhead work, heat, spark, dust, and sun exposure.

  • Preparing the surface: 

    • Dust from sanding or cleaning the surface can be inhaled and cause respiratory issues and toxic chemicals from primers or other surface treatments can be hazardous if not handled properly.

    • Sketching or transferring a design: long periods spent in one position.      

  • Mixing paint: 

    • Certain pigments and paint mediums can be toxic and cause skin irritation or chemical burns. Inhaling paint fumes can also lead to respiratory issues.

  • Applying the underpainting: 

    • Overusing the wrist, hand, and arm can lead to repetitive strain injuries, and ladder or scaffold safety should be considered if working at height.

  • Building up the painting: 

    • Prolonged exposure to paint fumes and chemicals can lead to respiratory issues and skin irritation, and a cluttered workspace can pose a tripping hazard.

  • Drying:  

    • Paint fumes can be harmful if inhaled, and chemicals can be toxic if not handled properly.

  • Equipment cleaning, maintenance, and storage: 

    • Be aware of stored energy when disassembling equipment after each use per the equipment’s operator manual and dispose of generated waste material appropriately and separately from general waste.

  • Controls:

  • Working with hazardous chemicals: Read and adhere to materials SDS.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, vendors, customers, and the general public.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • GED or High School diploma preferred but not required.
