Under limited supervision, The General Agricultural Mechanic will oversee the performance and maintenance of heavy farm machinery.
Essential Functions
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service repairs on farm equipment, machines, and vehicles.
- Uses CMMS to track all material used in assigned duties and records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts.
- Performs electrical and mechanical diagnostic-based maintenance on various mechanical equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, loaders, and irrigation equipment.
- Operates vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes.
- Performs basic diagnostics and reports on farming/agricultural equipment.
- Thoroughly cleans machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling them as necessary.
- Oils and lubricates moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance.
- Orders and installs replacement parts for machines.
- Identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.
- Repair broken machines quickly and efficiently.
- Prepares reports documenting work performed.
- Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
- Coordinates with farm managers and supervisors to schedule regular maintenance or repairs on machines.
- Makes necessary modifications and implements test runs; confers with farm manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as necessary.
- Maintains condition of vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment.
- Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Competencies

Experience and Education
- 2+ years of technical school preferred
- Basic Service Technician certification preferred
- 4+ years training in mechanics accepted in place of technical school
- 4+ years experience performing service repairs on heavy construction or agricultural equipment and machinery
- Experience with farm equipment maintenance and repair is required.
- Ability to perform basic and advanced repairs and required maintenance using special tools and equipment following technical manual procedures.
- Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems is required (Limbile is a PLUS)
- Basic computer functions are required.
- Must be 19 years of age or older.
- Forklift certification is a PLUS.
- All potential new hires will undergo a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
To perform essential job duties, all potential new hires must be eligible to drive a company vehicle according to Super-Sod insurance guidelines.
Requirements:
1) Must possess a valid driver’s license
2) No major safety and moving violations reported on MVR within the past (3) years. Major violations include:
- Felony convictions
- Automobile insurance canceled or not renewed by an insurance company due to excessive tickets, accidents, points, or fraud.
- Convicted of alcohol or drug related offense while driving.
- Convicted of three or more speeding violations or serious moving violations; moving violations include texting or cell phone violations.
- Been involved in two or more chargeable accidents.
Work Environment
This job operates in exposure to direct sunlight and weather 50% of the time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This job also operates in an office and, in some cases, from a remote location. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This employee requires full range of motion of arms and legs and requires constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours can change at the discretion of the Farm Supervisor; though typical hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., evening and weekend hours may be necessary to accommodate operational needs.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day.
