This specific role is responsible for devising retention marketing campaigns across Email & SMS, using data to unlock insights & approaches, and strong cross-functional collaboration to drive measurable business results for our clients. Excellent analytical skills are essential, as well as strong attention to detail and clear communication.

As our Head of Retention Marketing, you'll oversee email and SMS campaigns across platforms like Attentive and Klaviyo in a senior role reporting to the CEO, overseeing everything from list building, one-off campaigns, to complex journeys and flows covering all aspects of the customer journey. Must have strong individual contributor skills (e.g. ability to execute campaigns end to end) and (eventually) help lead a team as our company scales.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own the strategic roadmap and execution of retention marketing for SMS & Email (and on occasion, lending expertise on complimentary channels like ad retargeting, push, etc)
  • Utilize customer segmentation and data analysis to identify opportunities for targeted messaging, churn prevention, resurrection, and personalized experiences across the customer lifecycle
  • Leverage strong analytics skills to identify, opportunity size, and stack-rank projects leading to the highest impact outcomes
  • Design and execute A/B test, applying basic knowledge of statistics (e.g. sample size, significance, etc.) to separate signal from noise
  • Ideate clever strategies and tactics to maximize efficacy, reach, and creativity of retention marketing campaigns, while minimizing unsubscribe, opt-out, or churn
  • Oversee creative strategy for retention marketing, from written content to design and more, ensuring creative is on brand, contextual, and performant
  • Manage client relationships: strategic alignment, KPI targets, reporting, scope, and more
  • Collaborate x-functionally with in-house teams, design, content strategists, performance marketers, data science and others to to craft personalized and compelling customer journeys
  • Craft thematic content calendars for one-off campaigns to compliment evergreen automations, journeys, and flows
  • Understand different BI techniques across attribution, conversion tracking, incrementality, and measurement
Minimum Requirements:
  • 5-10 years of experience in Email and SMS marketing, preferably the majority of it at top agencies and/or equivalent in-house roles
  • Built and optimized complex flows/journeys in high volume and/or reach scenarios (e.g. dozens of potentially intersecting customer journeys, sent to hundreds of thousands and/or millions of people, triggered by numerous contextual behaviors)
  • Extremely data-driven: must be comfortable analyzing large quantities of data in Excel, SQL, or other tools for purposes of identifying audiences, funnel drop-off, and opportunity sizing prospective projects
  • Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing creative, high-impact Email & SMS campaigns
  • Deep technical understanding of core retention channels, e.g. Email Headers, Responsive HTML/CSS, Deliverability, Opt-In/Out, Long vs Short SMS Codes, Flow & Automation Building, etc.
  • Expert level proficiency with leading Email & SMS marketing platforms such as Attentive, Klaviyo, or equivalents, with years of experience handling everything from journeys/flows, campaigns, list building & curation, cost savings, and more
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills; ability to prioritize and complete multiple concurrent and time-sensitive requests
  • Supervisor and/or management experience preferred; this role will primary be a senior individual contributor role to start with mentorship and but have the potential to quickly grow into a management role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail
Bonus Skills:
  • Experience with other performance marketing channels (e.g. SEM, SEO, Paid Social, push, etc.)
  • Dashboarding, Data Science, and/or BI skills (e.g. SQL, Tableau, Looker, BigQuery, Snowflake, etc.)
Salary/Benefits/Location:
  • Benefits: Health/Vision/Dental insurance, 3 weeks paid vacation
  • Location: This position can be Remote/WFH or join us in our Brooklyn office
  • Salary: $125-200k, depending on experience and other relevant qualifications
