Position Summary:

The Cloud Architect is responsible for implementing and supporting scalable, highly available, and secure cloud solutions on Azure. This role is pivotal in our journey towards a fully optimized, cloud-centric infrastructure within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem. This position collaborates closely with global tech teams, driving significant improvements in operational efficiency and effectiveness across the ministry.

Essential Functions:

  1. Architect and deploy high-performance solutions using Azure PaaS services, ensuring scalability, availability, and security.
  2. Lead the strategic transition from on-premises infrastructure to Azure, leveraging best practices for cloud integration and migration.
  3. Design, configure, and manage Azure API Management (APIM) to create, manage, and monitor APIs.
  4. Implement Azure Defender for continuous threat protection, security management, and compliance monitoring across cloud services.
  5. Collaborate with software development teams to create a cohesive cloud strategy that aligns with application needs and DevOps standards.
  6. Optimize cloud resources for maximum efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with security standards.
  7. Ensure robust disaster recovery and backup solutions are in place, tailored to cloud-based operations.
  8. Stay current with Azure services and technologies and recommend innovations that enhance our capabilities.
  9. Troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure issues, ensuring high availability and minimal disruption.
  10. Display a service mindset coupled with excellent communication.

Study or Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in cloud computing with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure, including significant expertise in Azure PaaS services.
  • Demonstrated experience with Azure API Management (APIM), Azure Defender, and other Azure security features.
  • Proven track record of successful on-premises to Azure cloud migrations.
  • Deep understanding of cloud architecture principles, networking concepts, and security best practices within the Azure environment.
  • Proficiency in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates or Terraform.
  • Strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Azure CLI, or similar technologies.
  • Azure certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Security Engineer Associate are highly valued.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.

Internal Work Environment:

Develop, maintain, and improve communication channels among various teams and departments to ensure effective flow of information throughout the organization. Handle sensitive situations or controversial issues with tact, discretion, and sensitivity. Exhibit excellent judgment regarding the appropriate content and timing of communications. Break down complex concepts into easily understandable formats for various audiences across the organization.

External Communication:

Establish and maintain communication with vendors, partners, and other external stakeholders. Understand their needs, expectations, and requirements to foster positive and productive relationships and model biblical principles.

Leadership Responsibility:

Provide technical and thought leadership and expert guidance on Azure to solve complex business problems.

Stewardship of Resources:

Contribute to the budget planning process for Azure related or Infrastructure initiatives, providing expert input on anticipated resources required as well as necessary tools and technologies. Offer insightful feedback to ensure cost-effectiveness and alignment with project goals.
