Mold Set-up Technician

Mission Plastics Inc. (MPI), founded in Ontario, CA, in 1982, is a full-spectrum custom injection-molding manufacturer for customers in the Medical, Automotive and Commercial industry sectors.

Purpose/Function: Responsible for setting up molds in automatic and manually operated plastic injection mold machines. Obtains mold at mold rack or from mold maker. Inspects mold for obvious flaws, damage and to ensure conformance with specifications. Adjusts machine openings (platen) for mold size and installs required fittings. When mold has been set in the proper position, secures the position of the mold with mold clamps and makes appropriate adjustments. Attaches and secures knock-out bars and makes required adjustments to the clamping unit of the machine. Installs water fittings, plumbing, hydraulic fittings and accessories. Cleans the molding surfaces of the mold after installation is completed. When production job is completed, removes the mold and returns mold to the proper position on the mold rack. The same procedure is followed for every mold set-up, with some minor variations, depending upon whether it is a hydraulic or conventional mold. Sets up an average of 3 molds a day which can take from 1 to 5 hours, per set up. Logs in information on control charts. Completes work order request forms. Able to work weekends and overtime, as needed. Works under direct supervision of floor supervisor or assistant floor supervisor.

Experience in injection molding required.
