General Counsel

Summary:
The General Counsel is responsible for all legal matters, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations while also providing strategic legal advice to the Leadership team.
What you will be doing:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the debt settlement industry
- Negotiate contracts with clients, creditors, affiliates, vendors to ensure legal interests are protected and that agreements are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Manage litigation and legal disputes; work with external counsel, and develop strategies for resolution
- Identify legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate and manage these risks effectively
- Work with external attorneys; collaborate with internal leadership to ensure best practices are implemented
- Guide internal departments on how best to navigate risks
- Provide legal advice to the leadership team on corporate governance matters
- Establish effective working relationships with external parties (affiliates and industry partners)
What you need to qualify:
- 10+ years' experience practicing law, focused on regulatory and compliance, contract law, and litigation management within the financial services and debt settlement industries
- Active California law license
- Strong knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing the debt settlement industry: FCRA, UDAAP, TCPA, TSR, FDCPA, CFPB, and state licensing requirements
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
- Prior experience working in the debt settlement industry or a related field is a big plus
