As a DevOps Engineer at Merrick Bank, you will play a crucial role in optimizing our development and deployment processes, ensuring seamless integration and delivery of software solutions. You will collaborate closely with software developers, system operators, and other IT professionals to streamline our technical and business operations and enhance our infrastructure.

 

This role will support new and existing infrastructure both on premises and in public cloud(s). The DevOps Engineer role is expected to be a combination of advocate, technologist, developer, and automation systems engineer.  This position will be responsible for understanding the organization’s compliance and regulatory needs while automating processes, flows, applications, etc. to meet these specifications.  

 

Essential Functions:

  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD):
    • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate software builds, testing, and deployment processes.
    • Monitor pipeline performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize workflows for efficiency and reliability.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
    • Utilize IaC principles to manage and provision infrastructure resources using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Chef.
    • Maintain version-controlled infrastructure configurations to ensure consistency and scalability.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management:
    • Manage cloud infrastructure on platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
    • Optimize resource utilization, monitor performance, and implement cost-saving strategies.
  • Containerization and Orchestration:
    • Implement containerization using Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes or similar tools.
    • Ensure containerized applications are scalable, resilient, and efficiently managed.
  • Monitoring and Logging:
    • Configure monitoring solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) to track system performance, application metrics, and log data.
    • Set up alerts and automated responses to detect and address issues promptly.
  • Security and Compliance:
    • Implement security best practices throughout the development and deployment lifecycle.
    • Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Collaboration and Documentation:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and provide DevOps support for various projects.
    • Document processes, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures to facilitate knowledge sharing and maintain system documentation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer or similar role, with a focus on CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and automation.
  • 5-7+ years’ experience in Server Administration (Windows and/or Linux) is required
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or PowerShell.
  • Strong understanding of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) and version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their respective services.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts, security protocols, and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
