We are currently assisting our growing client in their search for a Controller.

The Controller reports to the COO of a family owned and operated business. This role is responsible for directing the company’s financial organization. The Controller is to oversee all financial activities of the company, including working with operations and other departments to serve as an internal business advisor – providing accurate and timely data in an effort to be proactive in every department.

We are looking for a collaborative leader with an entrepreneurial spirit. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, be intellectually curious, and also have the desire to be an integral part of the leadership team.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain responsibility for financial operations, including working capital, capital expenditures, debt levels, taxes, budget, general accounting and payroll.
  • Must be willing and able to be in the details, but also willing and able to work at a high level.
  • Develop and direct financial plans to the strategic business plan, company growth, and market opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain stable cash flow management policies and procedures, and ensure cash resources are available for daily operations.
  • Set-up and oversee all financial and operational controls and metrics within the organization.
  • Establish performance controls and metrics.
  • Direct the preparation of all financial reports.
  • Review reports to analyze projections of sales and profit against actual figures, budgeted expenses against final totals, and suggests methods of improving the planning process as appropriate.
  • Analyzes company operations to pinpoint opportunities and areas that need to be reorganized, down-sized, or eliminated.
  • Establish and maintain reconciliation of the company inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
  • Approve and coordinate changes, improvements in automated financial, and management information systems for the company.
  • Coordinate the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards.
  • Interact with other managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial information analyses, reports, and recommendations.
  • Establish and implement short and long range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Provide operating budgets, marketing budgets and consistently review budget vs. actual with leaders and reconcile any discrepancies.
  • Lead and develop the accounting department to meet the needs of the growing business.
  • Other duties as required to successfully lead and foster the financial health of the company.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience with at least 4 years of experience in a financial leadership role.
  • Experience with inventory, costing, and overall operational accounting a must.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Critical thinking and strong management ability are a must.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate direct reports.
