Job DescriptionJob Description

Connection Services has a fantastic opportunity through our Technical Services division.  We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Center Technician to join our team in San Antonio, TX. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data center operations, including asset management, technology deployment, incident and change management, technical training, and general data center responsibilities. The role involves a mix of hands-on technical work and coordination with various stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient data center operations.

Experience:

·       Asset Management – document and update asset details, operational environments, and functional roles for all IT assets in the Data Center Information Management System

·       Analyze, prioritize, and respond to alerts, notifications, and requests that come to designated inboxes, phones, dashboards, and intake systems

·       Create and update Incident Records, coordinate with Technology Operations Center, and vendors; escalate based on exposure, risk, and skillsets needed, leverage on call resources

·       Interact with third party hardware and/or software vendors by initiating and supporting vendor services as necessary and validating repair activities of vendors, seek status updates, coordinate RMAs, and escalate as needed

·       Manage, Coordinate, and Audit Change Requests

·       Install and document data center infrastructure (e.g., cabinets, racks, patch panels, copper cabling, fiber cabling)

·       Install, document, and configure compute, network, and storage systems

·       Install, test, validate, & document firmware updates

·       Perform periodic walkthroughs/site surveys

·       Assist with vendor visits; sign in/out, escort during visits

·       Review inboxes, alert consoles, and SMS notifications

·       Other duties as identified by data center leadership

Skills:

·       4 years of experience in a data center environment.

·       3 years of experience working with third-party IT vendors and/or managing software/hardware supplier relationships.

·       3 years of experience creating and maintaining technical documentation or standard operating procedures for IT support or deployments.

·       2 years of experience in an IT role involving direct interaction with senior management.

·       2 years of hands-on experience with rack and stack operations, as well as cabling hardware in IT racks and cabinets.

·       2 years of experience troubleshooting physical connectivity issues, including copper and fiber cables.

·       2 years of experience working with structured cabling systems.

Education:

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent) preferred.
