Who are we? 

Aurora Behavior Services is a clinic located in Eagle River, Alaska. We are BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst)-owned and operated and employ a small staff of RBTs to deliver therapy to children affected by autism using the principles of ABA. We see clients as young as 2 years up to 18 years old. An RBT typically works 1:1 with a client, and follows a tailored individualized plan. Three BCBAs work full-time at the clinic for client and RBT support and supervision. 

What is ABA? 

 ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis. It is a systematic way of teaching based on the science of human behavior. It considers the child’s needs and wants to provide developmentally appropriate interventions for skill deficits and challenging behaviors. 

What is RBT Certification?

 The Registered Behavior Technician® (RBT®) certification is a paraprofessional certification in behavior analysis. RBTs assist in delivering behavior-analytic services and practice under the direction and close supervision of a BCBA who is responsible for their work. Find out more at www.bacb.com

How do I become an RBT? 

Have at least a high school diploma. 

Be 18 years of age. 

Pass an extensive criminal background check. 

Complete a 40-hour online training. 

Pass a competency assessment in person with a BCBA. 

Register and pass the RBT exam through Pearson Testing. 

We can assist you with becoming an RBT if you meet the other criteria (age, education level, clean background check, experience with children or individuals with developmental disabilities). 

We also require:

Dependable transportation to our clinic in Eagle River

Experience with caring for or teaching children or individuals with developmental disabilities. 

RBTs need to be:

Flexible- when working with children changes occur frequently

Reliable- our clients depend on us for consistent therapy

Able to lift 50 pounds, move quickly, and run for at least 50 feet

Able to accept feedback and instruction while working with a team

Able to adhere to a dress code that maximizes safety and professionalism 

But what does an RBT actually do?

Every day is different when you are working with children, and being an RBT is no exception. Typically RBTs are responsible for setting up the therapy environment, meeting the parent before the session and discussing any events that may affect the session, playing with the child, presenting learning opportunities and utilizing positive reinforcement after learning, following behavior intervention plans, keeping track of data throughout session and graphing it after the session, providing physical needs such as meals and toileting if necessary, communicating with parents, BCBAs, and other RBTs, and cleaning up the learning environment after the session. RBTs typically have several sessions a day.
