The Engagement Specialist position maintains a welcoming presence to all persons entering onto the AHCH campus and on outreach. This position navigates community members around campus, and clients to needed services. The position is also cross trained to provide assistance in the Resource Center and Outreach including Harm Reduction. This position assists clients directly where appropriate and will also at times participate in street outreach off campus.


Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide solid, engaging, and welcoming presence across organizational footprint
  • Assist departments as needed by assessing client needs and taking appropriate next steps for assistance (housing application, navigation to other services, referrals, etc.)
  • Engage clients through rapport-building, informing clients and other guests of AHCH services and processes for access to services
  • Work across all departments through coordinated in-reach initiatives, including client surveys
  • Communicate behavioral expectations to clients
  • Collaborate with AHCH First Responders, public first responders, the safety team, and community members to ensure a safe and healthy campus
  • Fill in as backup staff to Resource Center and outreach teams as needed
  • Work with AHCH clients through harm reduction and trauma informed care models
  • Develop strong relationships with cross-functional teams and departments
  • Participate in street outreach as needed


Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Comfort in working with populations with serious mental illness (SMI) and/or substance use disorder (SUD)
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner across organizational departments
  • Ability to be flexible and calm in a fast-paced, sometimes loud environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience working with under-served/vulnerable populations

 

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 2 years of experience working in street outreach or with at-risk populations
  • Prior de-escalation and/or Mental Health First Aid Training
  • Bilingual- Spanish/English
