We’re looking for a Junior Communications Engineer who will specialize in researching, designing, and developing Fire Alarm systems, with a general knowledge of Rail Communication systems to work at our client's location in Los Angeles, CA. The role involves working on a variety of communication equipment and systems including IT, radio, CCTV, telecommunications, and communication.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Fire Alarm Systems:

  • Design, produce, assess, and implement Fire Alarm systems designs and test procedures.
  • Install and maintain Fire Alarm systems and monitor their performance.
  • Identify and diagnose faults in Fire Alarm systems, and troubleshoot problems.
  • Assist in the development and deployment of Fire Alarm solutions.
  • Review Fire Alarm requirement documents such as IRDs and ICDs.

Rail Communication Systems:

  • Assist in the design and maintenance of co-existing wired and wireless networks for rail communication systems, under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Perform periodic network performance and capacity analysis for rail communication systems to ensure sustainability and develop/implement a capacity planning strategy.
  • Participate in architecture renovations and updates to integrate new technology and safety/security techniques for control systems networks in rail environments.
  • Design and develop electronic components to improve passenger experience in rail systems, including wired and wireless communication devices, sensors, and other devices.

General Responsibilities:

  • Consult with suppliers, customers, directors, and other teams of staff.
  • Manage installation, maintenance, and performance monitoring of various communication systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues promptly.
  • Make and give presentations to prospective clients and internal executives.
  • Manage virtual and in-person meetings.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Fire Alarm Systems:

  • Intermediate knowledge of Fire Detection and Alarm systems, including design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of Fire Suppression systems and their integration with Fire Alarm systems.
  • Ability to perform fault diagnosis and troubleshooting for Fire Alarm systems.
  • Familiarity with Fire Alarm system requirement documents such as IRDs and ICDs.
  • Knowledge of relevant fire safety codes and standards.
  • Proficiency in using software tools for Fire Alarm system design and analysis.
  • Ability to conduct performance testing and evaluation of Fire Alarm systems.

General Communication Systems:

  • Intermediate knowledge of Fiber optic (SONET) and Ethernet communications backbone.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Telephone systems.
  • Beginner knowledge of CCTV systems.
  • Beginner knowledge of Public Address systems (audible and visual systems, TPIS, ETEL/PTEL).
  • Intermediate knowledge of Intrusion Detection and Access Control systems.
  • Beginner knowledge of Seismic detection systems.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Radio Network systems (including microwave backhaul).
  • Beginner to Intermediate knowledge of SCADA systems.
  • Beginner knowledge of Data networks.
  • Beginner to Intermediate knowledge in Cyber Security, Firewall & Network Design.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Gas Monitoring systems.

General Competencies:

  • Impeccable verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for meetings with prospective and existing clients.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction principles.
  • Effective communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Superb work ethic and ability to accept feedback.
  • Advanced knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering principles.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or computer science

Experience

  • Three (3) years consecutive experience in Fire Alarm system design and/or maintenance, with general knowledge of Rail Communication systems.


PAY

  • $15.82 is commensurate with experience.
