Global Position Profiles Function: Manufacturing Shop Operations Team Manager
Job Summary:
Manages, develops, and leads the daily activities of multiple production teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the daily activities of multiple production teams, including managing team members, housekeeping, and meeting production targets.
  • Work cross-functionally to improve safety, productivity, quality, and efficiency of operations.
  • Provide guidance and feedback for team members to accomplish tasks and goals; set expectations and clarify responsibilities.
  • Coach and mentor team members.
  • Identify training needs; develop and implement training plans.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Team-Based Work Systems:
    • Utilize production structures with a consensus decision-making process to balance customer, individual, and business needs.
    • Understand team work systems at all levels.
    • Initiate changes in overall team design for optimal performance and to adapt to changing business environments.
    • Leverage knowledge of team work systems to complete complex projects by effectively utilizing the skills/assets of those best suited for tasks.
  • Labor and Employee Relations:
    • Possess working knowledge of employee advocacy.
    • Understand the impact of employee relations on unionization, absenteeism, turnover, potential litigation, and management-employee credibility.
    • Implement programs and tools to influence organizational culture and ensure fairness, consistent treatment, and effective communication (e.g., surveys, skip level interviews, employee participation committees).
    • Participate in problem-solving, counseling, and management and supervisor training.
  • Foster Open Communication:
    • Create an atmosphere where high-quality information flows smoothly; encourage the open expression of ideas and opinions.
    • Demonstrate deep knowledge in fostering open communication and encouraging honest views.
    • Conduct periodic informational meetings and develop processes to provide relevant information and obtain feedback.
  • Manage Execution:
    • Assign responsibilities, delegate, and empower others; remove obstacles; coordinate work efforts when necessary; monitor progress.
    • Demonstrate deep knowledge in managing execution, coordinating performance across regions, teams, and departments.
    • Apply planning and monitoring tools to ensure minimal missed milestones and surprises.
  • Motivate Others:
    • Encourage and empower others to achieve; establish challenging performance standards; create enthusiasm and a desire to excel.
    • Demonstrate considerable skill in motivating people and creating a positive work environment.
  • Emergency Management and Response:
    • Understand and apply emergency management techniques including incident command systems, development of response plans, protective equipment, and hazard assessment.
    • Manage emergencies to prevent significant injuries, operational disruptions, and damage to facilities.
  • Incident Investigation:
    • Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and develop effective corrective actions.
    • Perform thorough investigations including root cause and 5-why analysis to reduce or eliminate incidents.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

  • College, university, or equivalent degree, or high school diploma with significant experience required.
  • Certifications such as OSHA 30, Lull, High Rise Man Lift, and SST Supervisor Permit preferred.

Experience:

  • Significant supervisory experience required.
