Senior Indirect Tax Accountant

Our retail client is actively seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior Indirect Tax Accountant to join their tax team in Santa Ana. The ideal candidate is a proactive team player who can quickly adapt to handling multiple tasks while ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction for both external and internal stakeholders. This role requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong emphasis on attention to detail, analytical skills, and effective communication. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. Expected starting base salary $80,000 to $100,000 per year.
Responsibilities:
Review and approve exemption/resale certificates from customers.
Manage the exemption/resale certificate management system.
Process tax adjustments for valid non-taxable sales in the ERP system.
Provide guidance to other business partners regarding product taxability and nuances related to tax resale/exemption certificates by jurisdiction.
Prepare resale certificates for suppliers.
Research, interpret, and comply with state and local regulations and legislative rulings.
Assist with sales/use tax audit preparation.
Prepare and upload journal entries.
Reconcile sales and use tax general ledger accounts.
Develop and implement process improvements.
Requirements:
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (v-lookups, pivot tables, macros, etc.).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines within strict time parameters.
Willingness to learn the existing ERP system and understand the Accounting workflow structure.
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field preferred.
5+ years of indirect tax and accounting experience in a multi-unit, multi-state organization with a complex tax structure.
Experience in the construction or building distribution business desired.
