Overview:
As a Mechanic at Napa Recycling and Waste Services, you will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the efficiency of our fleet and equipment operations. Your expertise in mechanical repair and maintenance will contribute to the safe and sustainable waste management practices that are at the core of our mission. Napa Recycling works together with the City of Napa, Napa County and our customers to:
- Offer recycling and composting services to all our customers
- Reduce air pollution with the use trucks that run on compressed natural gas
- Increase recycling and decrease garbage bills through business waste assessments
- Increase recycling and composting opportunities at special events in Napa County

- Produce organic compost from Napa’s yard trimmings, food scraps & grape pomace

JOB DESCRIPTION | Mechanic
Position Summary:
Napa Recycling and Waste Services is seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our dedicated team. This Teamsters Union position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced individual with expertise in mechanical repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The primary focus of this role will be to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our fleet and equipment through preventive maintenance, repairs, and diagnostic tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
· Mechanical Repair and Maintenance:
- Perform mechanical repair and maintenance tasks to ensure the operational efficiency of fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement effective repair solutions to minimize downtime.
- Conduct regular preventive maintenance on vehicles and machinery to extend operational lifespan and ensure safety.
· Diagnostics and Inspections:
- Utilize diagnostic tools and techniques to identify mechanical and electrical issues accurately.
- Conduct regular inspections of fleet vehicles and equipment to ensure optimal functionality and compliance with safety standards.
- Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams to determine proper maintenance procedures and requirements.
· Safety and Compliance:
o Adhere to all safety protocols, guidelines, and regulations to ensure a safe work environment for oneself and colleagues.
o Participate in safety training programs and consistently follow safe work practices while operating machinery and performing welding tasks.
o Keep work area organized and maintain proper storage of tools, materials, and equipment.
· Documentation:
o Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs performed, and materials used.
o Generate reports detailing maintenance schedules, completed tasks, and any issues encountered during the process.
· Safety and Compliance:
o Adhere to all safety protocols, guidelines, and recycling regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel and visitors at Northern Recycling.
o Monitor and report any safety hazards or violations to appropriate supervisors or management.
· Collaboration and Communication:
o Work collaboratively with fellow team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure seamless operations and efficient problem-solving.
o Communicate effectively to report equipment status, repair progress, and potential concerns.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or vocational training in automotive or diesel mechanics is preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment for troubleshooting mechanical issues.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Willingness to adhere to all safety protocols and company regulations.
Other:
· Fluency in Spanish preferred but not required.
· Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing required.
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a Teamsters Union position with a competitive pay rate of $33.20 per hour. In addition to the hourly wage, employees will also be eligible for union benefits, including healthcare, retirement, and other negotiated benefits.
